I have a number of old video cassettes which I'd love to convert to DVD/Blurray. Noticed the tape themselves are really getting old so better now than never.
My question is, does anyone have a good solution to copy across VHS into VSTUDIO - I would be prepared for the quality not to improve at all - but would love the opportunity to re-edit them.
Anything you know of which works on windows 10? I have a working VHS player - assuming via scart lead I 'somehow' attach to my computer.
If theres a better method please let me know.
I haven't a firewire in my pc.

Assuming you are talking about analog VHS tapes then Roxio has a product which is designed to do exactly what you want. Here is link: http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/easy- ... rview.html
Don't bother trying to burn to BlueRay - the VHS video will not improve, in fact it most likely will look even worse since all the imperfection are amplified.
BTW, Roxio is also a Corel company

There are a number of kits like Roxio. Checked Roxio out on Amazon and for all the 5*s there were an equal number if 1*s so it only worked for half the buyers - the risk is yours.
My option would be to record your VHS tapes to a DVD using a DVD recorder (Panasonic do a decent one) and then using the DVD in your PC carry out any editing and re record on to a new DVD.
If you must go down the VHS to USB route then EzCap has a better rating than Roxio but again users have had mixed success. See the post above from Ron P.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: VHS to DVD via a little editing of VS
Thanks for the replies and advice, and Brian for the link ( back to a old thread of mine asking about the same thing!! only now, with my new pc, do i feel up to it re using VS once again! )
On a similar vein - once i have my old video footage in VS. I have a music track and a voice track on the tape at times. Used a £10 little mixer back in the '80's ...but I would love to be able to get rid of that and add new sound/effects and also of course it will be impossible for me to properly edit unless i get rid of the sound.
Is there a way of doing this? im doubtful...but who knows...surely theres something out there that can divide an old audio tape from video tape - asking too much??

Once you put the video with sound track in the timeline you can mute the existing sound and add as many new sound effects and music as you wish - - or if you want separate the pictures and sound and just modify the old audio - cut bits out - add new bits etc.

Oh I know that - that's common sense ( even for me!! ) the problem with that method is..i then lose the original voice audio... I edited it in the distant past 'like a movie' - merging the voice and sound into one naturally. So..ideally..i want a miracle way of now separating that voice and music track!! Impossible I suppose??
Hence the reason for asking. Any roundabout way of getting that original voice track back?

VHS to DVD 5.0 Deluxe by Honest Technology is what I use.
I got it on special at Newegg.com for less than $25USD.
As for separating audio on the same channel good luck.
Ask Jeff Lynne about that one when he had to separate music and lyrics from John Lennon's demo cassette tape for Free as a Bird.
