PSPx9 64 bit or 32 bit

Post by Safiren »

I have a question about installing PSPx9 32 bit or 64 bit.
My computer is 64 bit.
When i install i get the ability to choose 32 or 64 or both.
I think i have read that installing both is to prefer - why - or why not ?

I hope someone can help me.
I have:
PSPX9 ultimate
PSPX5 ultimate
PSP 2018
Windows 10

32-bit lets you use plugins
64-bit lets you access more RAM but loses access to most plugins (unless the plugin itself is also 64-bit).

People prefer both because they want to use plugins, this includes the KPT plugins that come with PSP. But they also like being able to work on large images without PSP complaining that it has run out of memory.

Also, if you're unsure, installing both lets you use both so you can decide int he future how you want to handle the installations.

Then i' ll install both.
Thank you for a good explanation.

Then question no 2 came up. It' s about KPT.

I have PSPx9 here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel

I downloaded KPT and run the exe.file.
I have it here
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (64-bit)\PlugIns\EN

But......
i can not see it in PSP in effects.

When i open PSP - 32 bits i can see KPT in effects.

Most of my plugins are old ones so do i have to always use the PSP 32-bit program if i want to run downloaded plugins ?
I have:
PSPX9 ultimate
PSPX5 ultimate
PSP 2018
Windows 10

Yes -- unless, as LeviFiction has already said, the plug-in comes in a 64 bit version and you have that 64 bit version. Most of the older plug-ins have never been upgraded to 64 bit, so will only work in the 32 bit version of PSP.

Agree with the comments here. Some 32-bit plugins do work on 64-bit PSP, most notably the older range still available from Topaz Labs. I have only 64-bit PSP installed and use Topaz regularly. They have updated a lot of their plugins to 64-bit only, like Impression, Glow and Remask.

The Topaz 64-bit plug-ins are designed for 64-bit operating systems but will work with 32-bit editors.
