Convert DivX file to DVD using MF4

Post by gwoodall »

I have a DivX video file that I want to convert to DVD to play on my home DVD player. Will MF-4 do that for me?

certain codecs are a crapshoot (imho). It might or might not work because divx and xvid videos can vary depending on who is creating them. You might be able to do the video, but not the audio (and vice versa).

This doesn't help you, but I just thought I'd mention up front that divx and xvid can be problematic...

Download the Trial to see if it will handle your files. But keep in mind, it might handle your current divx video, but not handle a different divx file...

A player that can play DivX would be cheaper than MF4 I think. Converting DivX to mpeg is iffy at best. DivX is highly compressed already, though at good quality. Converting that to mpeg??? I don't know

I bought a "Norcent" dvd player from 6th Avenue Electronics for $38.00 US Dollars. Also plays divx and if the cd/dvd isn't identified as either a vcd/svcd/dvd then it goes into data mode and displays the disks directory and file structure to play mpeg's/avi's or divx's separately.

Thanks George; I guess I didn't provide enough info in my question: I already have MovieFactory 4 and when I tried to burn a DVD from a DivX file, it took over an hour for the progress line to show even 1% complete! So, thinking it wasn't converting the DivX file, I cancelled the program. I burned a DVD from the DivX file using Nero Express, but Nero apparently doesn't convert it to DVD because it won't play in my DVD player. However, I can play it on my computer! Any suggestions?

Try using the Export Movie tool to convert the Divx to MPGs. Its much faster than converting the divx to vob in the last step and usually has a higher success rate (imho).
Who? Me?

Thanks Ploggy! I'll give it a try, if I can figure out where the "Export Movie" tool is!

it's one of those 4 icons in the bottom left corner (they go vertically next to the timeline down in the bottom left side).

I've burned lots of divx-ed movies to normal dvd format with MovieFactory3. Right now, I've got one that's taking a looooong time to render - normally it takes a long time, but not ridiculous. I just made sure to get it started before i went to bed, yk?

Yes, thanks George, I found the icon and successfully converted the DivX file to mpg. And actually, it didn't take all that much time, about 3 hours! Thanks to all who have helped me with this problem.
