Hi guys
First time posting here, I'm relatively new to Video Studio.
I'm editing a music video, have two cameras synced to an audio track. I did a quick edit in the multi camera mode.
Now when I try and put transistions between clips it makes the video go out of sync with the audio.
Is there a way of putting transistions in without affecting the timeline duration?
Or is there a workaround?
Thanks in advance!

Re: How to do transition without affecting timeline duration
All of the transitions supplied with Videostudio work by overlapping the two videos - then "transisting" from A to B - so yes they are always going to shorten the video without affecting the audio
first question - - do you really need transitions ??? - I am not a great watcher of 'music' videos but those that I have seen do not seem to use many transitions - preferring instead to use the impact of straight 'jump' cuts
but if you want to use something then I can only suggest a short clip/photo in the overlay track across the join to produce something along these lines -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIkvNXx8siI - although you of course will use images more appropriate to your video

Re: How to do transition without affecting timeline duration
Hi
You could add the transition from the MCE panel, there is an A/B icon above the timelines.
The duration seems to use 3 seconds where it can, I don’t know how to change that as it does not seem to follow the Preferences settings?
It uses a Crossfade but I guess you could replace that if you wish, keeping the same duration.

Re: How to do transition without affecting timeline duration
I have been using a different video editing program (PD), and have been using their multicam feature which is similar, with 2 or 3 cameras for drama/musicals. However as I have been having the same problem with transitions between clips making the video go out of synch with the audio, or momentary freezing during transition. Therefore looking at VideoStudio to see if its any better, or if there is a good workaround. I downloaded the free trial version today, and when trying it with 2 cameras on Multi Camera, the video is unworkably sluggish. Why do the free trial versions disable hardware acceleration so that the program that are trying to promote performs worse? Makes no sense. I tried the smart proxy (and on my other editing program I dont use proxy), and sometimes it works and at other times on playback the audio progresses while the video is frozen.Joebags_23 wrote:Hi guys

So at this stage its not working well enough to see if it will work for me.
I saw the other replies, but what is the MCE panel? Sorry if its a silly question.
Also maybe I'll consider going back to straight cuts during the musical numbers.

Re: How to do transition without affecting timeline duration
Hi Joebags 23
Unfortunately the way transitions are applied does alter the timeline duration, but we can correct that by adding frames to our clips, but only after cutting a clip.
Please read this post regarding transitions sync.

If your editing is “unworkably sluggish” then you should use Smart Proxy.
That may smooth playback.
I would create the proxy files before opening the Multi Camera Editing panel.
