Hellooo there
I have dusty video casettes, VHS, VHC -C , fancier S-VHC - C - I want to now convert over to DVD / Bluray ( aware quality will be an issue ), but I want to 'EDIT' / RE-EDIT some of the videos..perhaps adding a few sfx's / cut scenes / filters..may help the old videos appear slightly better.
SO - my question to you..and only to YOU who have actually done this. Can you recommend to me a decent coverting 'machine' - eg Amazon have a few converters, £35 scart leader from VCR into SD socket type scenerio..
Basically, i want to convert my videos and bring them into VS and then edit them, add a few titles perhaps. Can this be done - can it be done a better way? - simple enough?
Again, aware the quality will not improve - if anything will degrade i suspect.. THOUGHTS MORE THAN WELCOME KIND SIRE'S.

I have converted many of my VHS and VHS-C tapes using this device - http://honestech.com/main/vhs-to-dvd-70-deluxe.asp
it comes with it's own software programme and I have found it is best to use that to capture quite good quality mpeg videos - it is then very easy to import those videos to Videostudio to do all the editing you wish

Re: Heres to the future - VHS TO DVD
Hi
I used my MiniDV GS 400 camcorder having Pass-through capabilities. (video throughput) allowed me to connect VHS to camcorders AV-In, then connect DV- Out to PC via firewire.
The camera being used as an analogue to digital converter created DV-Avi files, the quality is very good.
I have to say not all cameras support Pass-through...

... I too used DV pass through and loved the result. The problem these days, though, is that DV requires a Firewire port and these no longer exist on modern computers, though you can probably still find motherboards which will accept Firewire cards. And DV camcorders, or those which have Firewire capabilities, will be rare, as are the Firewire capture devices like Canopus which, moreover, were very expensive...
