project within project

Post by Ilene »

is there a feature in X9 where you can open a project within a project? Thought I saw this somewhere... this would be a huge shortcut if you could just mimic sequences from prior projects in current project, short of making a template of the project

the problem with making templates is that I'd prefer to mark in on the time line and mark out the sequence I would want to export, and you can't do that. you need to do the whole project.

thanks

Yes you can open up a project within a project - sometimes referred to as "nesting"

two ways to do it - first you can RIGHT click on the timeline and choose "Insert Video" then browse to and select the .vsp for the project you want to insert - OK and it will appear in the timeline - - PROBLEM - doing it that way the whole project comes in as one "block" all there but you cannot use separate elements.

to get at the individual elements you need to do it slightly differently - - use the 'import media files' folder in the top left corner of a library panel but browse to and select the .vsp - OK will add the .vsp to the library - now if you drag and drop from the library to the timeline you should be able to access all the individual components.

as another possibility - did you know that if you open a project you can then drag and drop items from within the project up into a library panel - where an exact copy will be made which you can drag back down into as many different projects as you wish.

Yes! I do that last option all the time... I contantly save sequences and presets that way, but while they hold their properties, they dont hold their timing and how they stack up on the timeline.

Option 2 is what I was looking for. That could be a huge time saver. I often edit to the same music and it would be wonderful to open a project in a project and simply replicate certain sequences by copying and pasting the attributes as I wish.

Worried about people's issues with corrrupting their libraries. Have been reading some of the nesting posts.

For some reason last night I tried the "add media" option but couldn't see *vsp files but looked again after your response and I could.
