Can't drop videos into track

Post by csleep1958 »

Hello....I am trying to drop a video into a slideshow with no success. I have tried to drag and drop the video from my video library. When I attempt this, as I am dragging the video, there is a red circle with a sideways slash in it and nothing happens.... When I right click on the track and choose “insert video” I get a box that states “quicktime is required to open MOV files. Please download quick time from Apples official website. The videos are MOV files but play on windows media player when I open them...do I need to download quicktime for this to work? Also...all my videos are on another drive...but I don’t believe it’s the problem because I took it off the 2nd hard drive and placed the video on the desktop...I got the same results...thank you, Carol...

Are you running Vs X6 as the panel on the right says? If this is so, you have a pretty old version and I won't be able to help much; you may need to install the correct version of Quicktime that that version expects and Quicktime is not a nice program to have installed (do a search to learn about this).

If you have X9, VS can take MOV files without needing Quicktime installed.

You can also use a conversion program to get that MOV file converted to something like mp4.

Apple have stopped supporting QuickTime for Windows because of security issues, which affect QuickTime Player, the workaround is to download QuickTime 7, run as administrator, select MODIFY, then disable everything except QuickTime Essentials, then install, this will only install the codecs and VSX6 will now be able to play .MOV files

Thank you all for your input...well, after some research it looks like Quicktime 7 is unsafe...as stated above :( . So it seems I am not going to be able to add video to my slideshow....unless someone has another workaround???? Simple if possible as I am not very computer savvy. I would have never bought this version if I knew I would not be able to use video clips, what a waste! Very frustrating as I have a beautiful slideshow I just made for my MIL's 80th who I told I would revise and add the videos and pictures I took at her party and add to it...again, any other workarounds appreciated if possible!! Thanks...

Just convert the .mov clips to either DVD-compatible mpeg-2 or high def mpeg-4 which will have the same or very similar properties to the .mov files. Quite a few of us here use a free video converter called Format Factory which you can easily find with a Google search. Just be careful when installing it to read each page of the installation routine to avoid installing other bloatware programs which are offered.
