X9 4K Monitor Support

Post by rondo »

Does anyone know exactly what this does and how? I have a high dpi screen on my laptop, and even bumped up to 125% in Windows settings, everything in PSP is still really small- tools, toolbars, text. palettes etc. I'm currently still on X6 and getting tired of eye strain.

I suspect that PSP hasn't been programmed to be high dpi aware so Windows won't automatically scale it properly. What size is your screen and how large is the PSP workspace showing in relation to the screen real estate available?

I have a 13" screen with 1929x1080 resolution, and at the default Windows resolution of 100% PSP is way too small to be usable. At 125% scaling it is barely usable for me. That's why I was wondering about the advertised 4k monitor and high dpi support for X9. I know my current X6 is not, and was thinking about upgrading to X9 for the new feature, but there are no details about it anywhere.

I understand now. As I don't have X9 I cannot say if Corel has programmed it to be High DPI aware so can't help there. Hopefully somebody with a high DPI monitor with X9 will chime in with some answers for you. Be aware, however, that my understanding is that while some apps advertise that they are High DPI compatible some people report that this sometimes means they work on a High DPI monitor but doesn't guarantee that they have been properly programmed to be High DPI aware so that Windows will automatically upscale them properly.

You could always download the Trial version of X9 and see if it works better for you. Just a thought.

Hello: I have a 4k monitor and just tested the trial version of PSP X9 and all text on the main screens and in dialog boxes works fine, just like X8+Service Packs. I have my text on that monitor set for 200%. When I slide the X9 window over to my second screen, a 21", about the same resolution as yours, and where text is set for 125%, the window adjusts appropriately and all text is perfectly legible. You may wish to check the system requirements for X9, then just download the trial version and test it yourself for free.

What I haven't found a way to make work on my big screen are the plug-ins such as Athentech Perfectly Clear, the Nik Collection by Google, or Topaz. They worked fine on the smaller screen when it was my only screen.
