New Blue Crop Filter
Does anyone have issues using this filter? I like to give my images transparent borders so its a wonderful tool. It worked inconsistently in earlier versions of VS.. And now in VS 9 its not working at all.
It seems to be working when you look at the preview window within the new blue module.. But those changes dont transfer to the image on the VS timeline.
Other NB filters in that sampler pack are working perfectly.
I have tried jpg, bmp and png images and all yield same results.
Im looking to give my images a blurred, feathery edge. Can achieve this in photoshop but its an extra step.
I have the effect I like saved in NB presets from earlier versions and that not working either. I opened up projects fr earlier versions that contained the effect, and its gone fr the images that had it.
Advice? Not much on this user board about the filter. Ive searched. Maybe not commonly used?
Thanks

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
Do not really understand the purpose of this filter, using the "transparent" option on an image, this is what I see, rather pointless to me, unless someone can explain exactly how this filter is supposed to be used.
If your NB presets were created in a 32 bit version of VS, they will not work with the 64 bit version

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
the result you are yielding with the filter is precisely the problem -- it shouldn't look like that at all. I had this issue occasionally in prior version, thought it was just a glitch in my software, but my presets always worked. Evidently its a problem that has carried over to new install/new computer --- so it's likely not specific to me.
it's actually a quite useful feature, especially for PIP, if you don't want your images to have sharp borders!
This is what it is supposed to look like... you can crop the image vertically, horizontally and feather the edges as much or as little as you would like! you can crop out unwanted features and give your image a soft floating look.
As far as NB filters not working from 32b to 64b, I have only tested a couple that I use frequently, Background Generator and Tile ( VE VI) and my presets have all retained their properties from earlier 32b versions. So this has not been an issue yet? Is that odd?

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
Ilane , it will work only on overlay video and when you apply the full white mask also.
But why wont you just use a feathered mask instead?

Hi
That does indeed seem a little strange
Have you tried using the Vignette filter?

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
I guess that mask tool is useful.. sometimes I have issues with the mask tool because I don't get it to mask exactly the part of the image I want. BUT THIS WORKED, for this effect! thanks.. can use white mask too and then if I want to adjust more I can with NB crop tool.
Still weird that this NB crop tool used to work! and not sure why some NB filters retained their properties 32b to 64b and this one did not?
Vignette filter is nice... but only when you make the edges transparent first...you need the soft focus on the borders as well as interior of an image
thank you so much!

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
IIene, unlike other NLE's VS do not have a hidden black video track, hence you can't crop a frame on track 1 as what will be filled in the missing pixels? Some filters will submit those pixels with color or duplicate pixels.

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
I never crop on main video track. Only the overlay track. I use main track primarily as background. Rarely edit much on it. Sometimes even use a solid black clip to fill the gap on the main track. So much easier to make changes and adjustments without worrying about ripple editing.

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
Hi asik
What do you mean by Vignette has a different look as we can select a rectangular shape?
I must admit the reflection filter looks to have a lot going for it.
I don’t see that in my FX library, was It provided by Video Studio?
Maybe looking in the wrong place.
Yes I was looking in the wrong place, was using X8,
It is provided with CVSX9 NB iv
Similar to Picture in Picture?

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
Hi
Not sure I understand, but I thought I saw a vignette that gave a transparent border, cannot seem to find that now?
Maybe I was looking at Chroma Key – Frame Masks
I am sure there are a few options to do this and users will have their own favourites.

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
trying to use the reflection filter... it achieves what I want, basically, but I think you need to use it on a solid background. I set the color to black and made the opacity 0 and put it on a multi colored background, and I couldn't get rid of the think black border of the image... the inside was feathered, transparent edges like I wanted to see, but there was think black border of the orig image size that was retained.. doesn't seem to be a way to key it out, unless maybe I add a chroma key filter too? Actually that seems to work.

Re: New Blue Crop Filter
Hi Ilene
Have you tried applying Chroma Key – Mask Frame option and not FX filters.
That will apply a transparent border to your images.
We can make our own masks using an image editor.
How
Create e a Black and White image, vignette/feather from White image to a Black border
Save the image as BMP.
White shows image, black shows transparent
assuming one of the effects is not suitable I have attached an image to give an idea of what you need, but maybe more black???
Open Chroma Key – Mask Frame – select “+” symbol to add the mask.
