Failed again.

Left a message for Ulead tech support on the phone this afternoon. They have been good at returning my calls.

I will ask them a few more questions.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi

Can you post me a ½ second capture (2MB) to me at

Thanks

1 second capture (4MB) should be in your box.

Thanks.

32,000 kHz audio is the difference (Mine is 48,000 kHz)

Still Thinking

48,000 kHz audio works 32,000 kHz doesn't on the face of it.

One more experiment, can you set your camcorder to 48,000 kHz audio & see if this alters things.

I presume your properties show the same as my screenshot?

John, do you mean you can't capture larger than 4gb if audio is 32kHz?

That could explain why some folks are good, while others are not -- I was planning to try to record >4gb tonight with 32 khz audio, but if you've already done that, then that could be the answer to this puzzling issue :D

George

We have 2 guys who can't break the 4GB limit capturing with DVDWS 2.0, one has 32,000kHz, the other is on 44,100 kHz.

I would be gratefull if you can run a 32,000kHz capture test, I think I'm going down with a bug

ok, I'll run that tonight and see what happens -- won't be for a few hours though (until I get back to my editing machine).

My current location will not relay mail to you.

My properties show my capture attempts at 32.

I will run another test when I get home in a few hours.

Thanks.

Back to the drawing board, type 2, 32,000kHz DVDWS capture, 5+GB

If the MS DirectShowcodec has it's own way, there isn't a problem with 4+GB.

Longshot to remove DVsoft
http://forums.dvdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=1045

From an old Videowave support page
http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:O5 ... +4gb&hl=en
The Windows file size limits are:

1. FAT16 = Windows 95, 98, 98SE, NT4 = 2Gb
2. FAT32 = Windows 95 (OSR1 or later), 98, 98SE = 4Gb
3. NTFS = no practical limit, however there is a 4GB limit for AVI files.
4. If a VFW capture driver is being used to write the file, AVI file size limit is always 2GB.

For DV files the 4GB limit loosely translates into 20 minutes
OK you may not have this codec, however the mainconcept codec & this one seem to have a 4GB limit, I suspect there are others,

I think the problem here is that the standard implementation for 32 kHz is 4 channel 12 bit, NOT 2 channel 16 bit. If you want 2 channel (stereo) 16 bit, you must go to 48 kHz sampling.

In reality, strictly according to the DV standards, 2 channel 16 bit 32 kHz sampling is theoretically possible, but I've never come across a practical implementation of it. I recommend ALWAYS to use 48 kHz with 16 bit dynamics.

Brian

Thanks for the input

Why are these guys hitting a 4GB limit though with DVDWS"?

The answer has to be that the DirectShow codec is being overuled (IMHO)
as per my 2 examples.

Like John did, I was also able to capture a dv type-2 larger than 4gb with 32kHz audio -- so that's not the problem.

Can you r-click your capture drive, and show its properties? Is it a partition of a larger drive?

Maybe re-registering qdv.dll might help:
===> Start/Run regsvr32 qdv.dll
