Installation, from box to download

Post by Cassel »

I have a question from a member of my site. And it got me thinking.
If i buy a boxed version of PSP, which has the license code, can i use that code to "unlock" a downloaded version, if at any point, my disc is lost or damaged?
Or is a license code for a boxed version different than a downloaded version?

I think it would be great if it works on the downloaded version as those would normally already include the SP and not require the user to update the installed version (just faster process).

In the past they were certainly different and one would not unlock the other. Whether that is still the case is something you would need to ask Corel directly unless someone here has tried it with recent versions.

Ken, i was afraid that your answer was correct but to be 100% sure, i got in touch with Greg Wood and here was his answer:
When you buy a box, you also have the right to download and install a digital download. Many PCs are now sold without an optical drive, so this is a must.

Box purchasers are prompted to download their downloadable version from http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/landing/download/

Both PSP and PSP Ultimate reside here. There is no trial of PSP ultimate as you know.
In a way, i think that is great news, don't you think? I don't know if it has always been (or was supposed to be) the case or if it is only in recent versions, but it does seem to be the case at least going onward.

Yes, that is good news. What I said above about (much) earlier versions was certainly true and came up a lot here. I never understood why one key was not universal for all variants of the same version (update/download/disc). So if Corel has finally adopted this, it's a good and practical thing -- particularly as they seem to want to phase out disc versions...
