Wrong DVD setting on output tab (VS7)
I checked my project settings in the output tab before burn and it showed DVD NTSC and not PAL which is what I want.My project settings were set to PAL from the start of the project as I confirmed by opening up the project again( after I aborted the burn)How has this happened and is my only option to go through the share and render process again ?Fortunately it is only a 17 min project

Re: Wrong DVD setting on output tab (VS7)
so what have you actually rendered - PAL or NTSC ?
if your video is actually PAL then all you need to do is change the disc template option in the burn module to PAL - but if you have rendered an NTSC video then you do need to render again

As I had set PAL in the initial project settings then I guess that must have what was rendered to.I went through the motions in share without rendering, in the output tab this time it showed as PAL so I went ahead and burned ok.
"change the disc template option in the burn module"- could not find this-how do you do this if I need this in future.

If your Settings/Preferences/Edit tab shows (at the top) the NTSC button selected, then that is the default install. And you can't change it. You can change the various project properties to PAL, but all this does is make a one-time exception. Unless you change every project property you have to PAL, but that's still potentially a lot of one-time exceptions you have to remember to make.
It happens because on installation you probably just clicked thru the country/TV format panel, taking the default. As many even most do. But the default is the USA, and that country's TV format is NTSC. Regardless of the Video Studio version, you should pay attention to the country of use panel when installing: even if you don't know what TV format your country uses, VS does. Choose the correct country and the correct display format will be selected for you. Why bother with digital screens you ask? because not everyone has a digital flat screen, and those digital screens still use the TV format resolution and frames per second as defaults for image display.
Until X9, you can't change this default preference without re-installing the program and making the right country of use choice.
In an X9 installation, if you have done this (clicked thru and taken the default on installation) and gotten an NTSC as the default format, you can change it without re-installing. In the Settings/Preferences/General tab, at the bottom is a new section called TV System. Simply select PAL there and the default is corrected.

Re: Wrong DVD setting on output tab (VS7)
Well that may well be true DavidK but Ken is using X7 which he has had installed for some time and has previously made PAL projects using it - so I cannot see the relevance here
Ken - first you can always check what you have actually rendered out by putting the rendered video back into the timeline and right clicking on it and choosing 'properties' from the flyout - that will tell you all
as regards the template manager - see below

Re: Wrong DVD setting on output tab (VS7)
Hi Guys
When we set our project properties we can choose Pal or NTSC irrespective of the installation choice. So we can install to Pal yet still edit in Ntsc
When we access the burner module it will use the project properties frame rate, if 29.97 will use NTSC as the burners default settings. So we can burn a NTSC Disc.
From the Options Cogwheel we can customise the render settings, assuming we are burning a project that needs the Convert Title option. We cannot customise / change these from Pal to NTST or visa-versa.
The Disc Templates Manager, image provided by Brian, well I cannot get that to change anything, yes I can set and create a new template but it does not seem to affect the burner conversion settings.
Maybe a bug in the program but I have never had to use that option, and when I test it does not seem to work.
Maybe you can tell me what it does?
The bottom line is whatever the project properties, I assume DVD Mpeg2, they will be used as the default settings for the burner module.

1 “whatever the project properties, I assume DVD Mpeg2, they will be used as the default settings for the burner module.”
2 As I referred to above, if PAL DVD and MPEG 2 was set in project properties, how could there be any question that the burner module would use anything else.
3 But in this case (and never before) on clicking the project setting cog in the output tab it showed NTSC.
4 Perhaps this was just a one off bug I had the honour of hosting.
5 Was not the point of referring to the disc template manager just to check whether the project was set to PAL and not make changes

Re: Wrong DVD setting on output tab (VS7)
Hi Kenneth
I don’t understand why you saw those different settings, I suppose you are unable to replicate the condition.
I have tried various settings but cannot replicate this.
If we convert our project to a DVD Mpeg2 compliant video file, (recommended procedure) and use that to burn the disc, we do not have to bother with the settings as there will be no Convert Title. (providing Do Not Convert Compliant is checked)
The disc will be burnt using the video file irrespective of it being NTSC or Pal

Thanks for your efforts Trevor, I am not able to replicate the issue again either. But , thanks to advice received here, I am now the owner of 2 DVDs that play on my DVD player and TV
