Lens ID Misread

Post by Gik-tal »

I was reviewing some of my metadata on my images and noticed that the wrong lens was showing up, for example I was using a AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR lens but Aftershot Pro 3 was reading the lens as a Sigma APO 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG lens, and it was also reading a Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom lens as a Samsung D-XENON 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II Lens. I had to open each one of my *.xmp files and do a replace all to fix the issue, which when you shoot a lot of pictures is a very long process. Has anyone else seen this behavior and how are you dealing with it.

Have came up with a temp solution that at least takes the work out of the task. First review all images and rate them, this will create the xmp file with the incorrect lens information. Now go to https://findandreplace.codeplex.com/and download the find and replace program, set up exclusions for your RAW files and then set the program to only search in xmp file extension files, then in the find block copy and paste the incorrect lens data, and in the replace type the correct. Now run the program and it will correct all of the files in a few seconds. Hopefully Corel will fix this issue at some point, but until they do this is a reliable fix. Please note if you only viewed a RAW file and did not modify or grade it, then this does not work,
