PSP version 19.0.1.8 x64

Post by yupus »

Just thought I'd do some quick editing in PSPx9. An update it said. All working fine I thought with the new release so updated.

BIG MISTAKE

The stupid thing crashes if I try to copy a layer from one image to another. This is ridiculous, the most basic of tasks and it fails. Now do I faff about uninstalling this update and re-install the previous release or do I hope Corel pull their finger out, actually do some product testing and apply a fix?

When I install a new version, I always keep the old version on my system just in case I need to remind myself how to do something that worked in the old version but might be slightly different in the new version.

Now having said this, can you throw us some light about your system - RAM, HD, OS etc.

Good luck.

I works perfectly on my system (copy/paste or dragging a layer from the Layer palette to the new image).
Are you copying with copy/paste or dragging ?

System spec is meaningless really but it's Win 10 64 bit.

If I try to drag a layer from an image (PSPfile) to itself it says

------- Command Execution Failed -----------
Command Name: PasteAsNewLayer
Error Text: The clipboard does not contain any visible data.
------- Command Execution Failed -----------
Command Name: ManageLayerDragDrop
Error Text: The clipboard does not contain any visible data.

If I try to copy to another file it will either crash or paste nothing. This is trying to copy a Text layer. I just tried with a brand new file, nothing open and copy text layer to new image. It pasted a layer with nothing in it!

Just tested what I think you are saying.

1. Loaded 4 images.
2. made second image active then dragged the layer thumb for that image over onto Image 1.
The image did a copy and paste as new layer so that image 1 was now hidden by image 2.
3. Made image 1 active and added a new transparent raster layer.
4. Dragged the thumb of that transparent layer over onto Image 1
Received the error message saying that the clipboard does not contain any visible data.
But strangely enough the layers palette now showed two transparent layers.
5. Repeated 2. for a third image.
I now had a complex with 2 image layers with two transparent layers between.
6. Dragged the thumb of that bottom image (Image1) back onto the Image 1 complex.
It made a duplicate on top of Image 1 which remained active (in effect did the same as making first layer (image1) active and the doing Duplicate.

Then I looked at the text problem
1. Loaded an image.
2. Loaded another image and typed some vector text in it.
3. From the layers palette dragged the thumb of the Vextor text over onto the first image.

PSPX9 (10.0.1.8) crashed
This worked OK in PSP X7 and X8.(18.1.0.67)

So perhaps another bug in PSP X9 if many others can reproduce .

Strange tried to correct but 8 + ) seems to give a smiley 8)

Shouldn't that be 19.0 1 8? :-)

cool, I'm not going mad. It was working in the initial release of X9 okay. Still works in X8 that I still have loaded.

Actually, the smiley is only built if there is no space between the 8 and the ). It might not look good on screen, but I have learnt over the years to always leave that space unless I really want that smiley!
