Hi

I google Video TDR Failures, and does indeed refer to graphics cards being old and not upto the job of playing large file size video 4K etc. guess I need to update some time soon

Even so I think I would be able to edit using Smart Proxy providing longer clips played back the same.

erdna wrote:Yes Ken I Use X9. I now notice that when I disable Smart Proxy and delete the created Prroxy file, I have some shakyness/strobing (no slowmo video) when playing back in X9 Pronect mode. No problems with playback outside X9 with VLC, WMP and MPC-HC players.
I unticked the Enable Smart Proxy box when I installed X9. I virtually never use it since for some reason none of my HD footage (mainly HDV and GoPro HD mp4/AVCHD) seems to need it.

I have only just turned on my computer, so started up X9 and inserted Hendrik's clip, and again had absolutely no problem in playing it back smoothly in Project mode -- again, without using SmartProxy. I suppose in a way I am a bit mystified by all this since my computer has far less resources than yours André... So I was a bit surprised to hear you get artifacts like shakiness and strobing -- though at least no slow motion. On my setup, there is no shakiness, strobing or anything else wrong that I can see in playing this clip back in either Clip or Project mode.

Yes, that is a large clip: 2.2 GB for a 3 minute song. And I too had problems with it. As you showed in the YouTube video, in Clip mode it plays smoothly. But in Project mode it went immediately into slow motion on my computer too. In addition it got noticeably pixelated as well. The music continued to play at normal speed in the background.

When I went back to the beginning of the clip to play it again, the video simply stuck at the first frame and would not play at all, though again the music was playing normally in the background. I did this a couple of times with the same result.

I then decided to make a proxy file for the clip. However, this caused X9 to crash immediately. After reopening the program I tried SmartProxy again, but got another immediate crash.

I was wondering whether these various problems might have something to do with the size of the clip and my own weaker computer. But since you are having similar problems, I guess the problem might be more related to some aspect of the clip itself -- especially since I had no trouble at all with the earlier, smaller clip.

This clip also gave me a lot of slowmotion / lag in project mode, the raw file is almost 8gb
I made this yt movie in a free program Hitfilm 4 express, that worked well as you can see, but I realy want to use x8 (or x9) because its a fine program to work with, tnx Ken

Hi

C0018.mp4
I am also having similar problems as Ken with the program crashing with Smart Proxy enabled.
Playback is poor in both Project and Clip mode, I would be unable to edit this video file.

Hendrik

I have passed details of this post to Corel Support, I am sure they would wish 4K editing to be trouble free for Video Studio.

Same here...crashed with SmartProxy enabled. Crashed again when I restarted VS. It did play back sort of ok on the timeline for a short time. When I moved the playhead to a different location on the clip, crash.....
No problem with another Corel editor with my computer.

I repeated my tests. Same results as before: no crashes, and choppu preview in project mod only with Smart Proxy disabled. BUT when I enable HW decoder aceleration for the Editing Proces, no lonfer choppy plabvack!
I wonder if this is related to my Intel integrated HD graphics which is known for MP4 processing power, or is somebody else without the Intel graphics getting the same results?
