Preset Requests?

Post by Greg Wood »

Hi Everyone,

You may have noticed that we've been releasing an ongoing series of Preset packs within the 'Get More' tab of AfterShot Pro 3. I've seen lots of comments in this forum about the desire for more "professionally formulated" presets, like those available for Lightroom. I'd love to hear what presets you're most interested in so we can go and create these for you! Any and all suggestions welcome.

Sincerely
Greg

Defenitely all the Fuji film simulations!
And together with that, support for the Fuji XT2 :).

+1
Definitely agree with that one.
We will also need to have support for XT2 cameras asap. Same sensor layout as XPro2, different cameras.
Still learning after all these years!

Hi Greg,

I want to add something to my previous reply. It is great that you are asking us for preset requests. I really appreciate that! :) It's just that, just like with camera support, imho, it is equally, if not more, important to look at what is popular at the moment outside the ASP community. If ASP wants to attract potentially new customers to ASP, it should not rely on requests made by current users. If someone buys a camera and goes looking for a raw convertor, he buys one that supports his camera and has nice presets. He is not going to buy the software knowing it doesn't support his camera, in order to make a request to support his camera ;).

I'm just saying this because I really like ASP and want to see it grow and getting better. In order to do that, it should look around and see what new (and popular) camera's are on the market and try to add those camera's to the system as soon as possible. What better advertising than being able to say ASP supports the new *** camera, where other software doesn't.

I agree with Kneops in that the Presets for adding should be to add features such as seen in LR and OnOne 10 preset controls is a me2 item.
Support for cameras as they are released has a real advantage as it pulls people towards the ASP environment.

The preset packs such as Sunset light, Early morning light, Blue and Cool light, Soft and summery, Vintage, Warm up, Romantic (softer and warmer with lower contrast) are all items that people use.
I also have a set of presets that I use for my Underwater scuba pictures and Infrared RAW processing. These will of niche interest but they have taken a while to produce. The IR presets are in my experience a bit more subjective and also linked to the IR camera conversion frequency/cutoff so are very specific

That said there are some MUST DO items in the way of bug fixes.
I am still waiting for the Minimise (-) feature to work since 2.0 release when it was broken. This may be Mac specific as I dont test the beta code on Windows.
I keep putting it into Bugzilla but it never gets fixed!
Still learning after all these years!

Hi Greg and others...

It is surprising to see that so few replies have been posted after Gregs question if there are presets we would like to see in ASP. Except for the Fuji film simulations ;). I guess that means that most people are not really interested in a lot of eye candy presets, which is good! I would like to see the Fuji presets, but I must admit I get better and more realistic results from just using the ASP settings. The Fuji presets are good, but I like my own presets more ;).

That said, the lack of replies to this topic and the many replies on other topics also means people or more interested in a stable working environment, camera support and improved image quality / raw conversion. So, if creating presets takes time, I would suggest it is more useful to spend this time on making the core of ASP better :).

Agreed, I would also like to advocate for prioritizing improving image quality, raw conversion, noise reduction, etc; the core functionality of the product. Making it faster and more stable are most useful for me, especially on Linux
