Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
I thought he was suggesting that the bad programming was with PSP, because he didn't mention the Dropbox program specifically but said "by some other programs," which I took to mean that maybe PSP programming was bad and might not play nice with programs other than Dropbox also.flagpole wrote:You appear to be agreeing with what heartpaul said. Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
Sorry about that. It can be taken both ways. Firstly Dropbox did something wrong which upset some of the programming that PSP used.
Now question did it also cause problems with photoshop users or other graphics programs, did it affect later versions of PSP?
If it did affect later versions of PSP but not Photoshop and other modern graphics programs then it suggests a problem with PSP coding that relies on something that can be changed and is not checked by PSP.
Or is it a case of only affecting much older programs which are lovingly cared for like PSP users.

Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
I am experiencing the same, but with PSP XI on our Windows 7 Pro computer. I've read the information here and have tried the things that I am comfortable with. I am not a "techy" person and as much as I need PSP to function, I certainly don't want to mess up our computer.
PSP XI was installed in 2014 when we got this PC (was previously on Windows XP) and everything was perfectly fine until August 19, 2016. I am someone that uses Tag Scripting and I think XI might be the last version where that functions. This option is very important to me.
I have uninstalled "Dropbox"; even went into the Programs area and deleted the Folder that was left behind; rebooted machine and PSP XI still won't open.
Sad, frustrated .... thank you for any help.

Have you tried holding down shift when you double click to launch?LauraC wrote:I am experiencing the same, but with PSP XI on our Windows 7 Pro computer. Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
LauraC, although you uninstalled Dropbox, there may have been registry settings left behind that's causing the problem. Did you try the latest Dropbox update as that fixed the issue?

Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
Thank you for the replies and suggestions.
I wasn't expecting to see the pop-up that PSP would be reset, so I haven't tried launching the program with the Shift-Double-Click. My hubby has "confiscated" the computer for awhile so hopefully some time today I can try.
About Dropbox - after I removed it I ran ccCleaner so that it would clean up any of the "bits" left behind. Not being a "techy" person, I HOPE that's what the program does; sometimes I rely on it to remove all the 'crap'. I never go into the Registry and other unfamiliar areas myself.

Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore - solution found

Here's what I did to recover use of PSP 9.
Right click on shortcut to PSP 9 and select Properties.
Go to Compatibiity tab, select CHANGE SETTINGS FOR ALL USERS, and
UNCHECK "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and also
UNCHECK "Run this program as an administrator."
Be sure to hit OK and APPLY to save the settings.
Close PSP if open ... then reopen.
Hope it works for someone else.

Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
LauraC, the act of removing Dropbox and then running CCleaner may be the reason why yours is not working now. Why don't you make a new Restore Point and then restore your system back to before those 2 events and then update Dropbox to the latest version, which fixed the PSP problem. OR perhaps just installing the latest Dropbox may work, if it is due to messed up files. Then see if your PSPXI works. All the people I've had contact with had their problem fixed by the Dropbox update.

Re: Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore
Thank you for the suggestion. Another techy friend of mine suggested that I try one more time to completely re-install PSP-XI. She also helped me to make sure that *everything* was removed because she thought it sounded as if something within PSP was corrupted since these other suggestions were not working for me. That worked. As of today, Aug. 30th, PSP-XI opens and I'm in the process of re-building it; linking folders; setting preferences, etc.patara wrote:LauraC, the act of removing Dropbox and then running CCleaner may be the reason why yours is not working now. I might just use Dropbox via their website and not install on our computer.
Thank you everyone.
