Suddenly my PSP9 won't open anymore

Post by Titia »

Hi, I've been working with PSP9 (the old Jasc Software) for a long time, even on my Windows 7, but tonight it suddenly wouldn't open anymore. When I clicked the icon nothing happened. So I deleted it from my computer and after a restart I installed it again from the original CD. No problem with the installation (set it to compatible with Windows 7 and administrator again) but the program still won't open anymore. When I click the icon now, I get a popup asking if the program is allowed to make changes to my computer. I checked the compatibility and it says it's not compatible. How is it possible that it was still compatible yesterday and is not compatible anymore today???

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome, because I don't have another photoshop program and I work a lot with photos and my pc is set to open all photos with PSP9.

For what it's worth... same happened to me on the 22nd. In my case it's PSP X on Win7.

3 days before everything worked fine and now PSP won't show on screen even that the process is running. I went the same way and uninstalled and reinstalled PSP but with no effect. Funny fact is that PSP-8 is still running fine but most of my important files are PSP-X and my additional Photoshop won't open PSP files.(I hate PS)

I don't want to update to the crappy X7 or later... :? but it doesn't look good...

I have the exact same problem; and have browsed the web & found others that have similar issue on this date.
also tried to install on my old win xp pc, but no luck.
so it is not a windows (update) issue...

possibly a windows service that is connecting to a server online which is no longer available?

hopefully someone will find a solution, because I too really need the old Jasc version.

Has anyone changed the time/date on their computer backwards and done a test to see if there is something cooking with the date?

apparently an "offline" machine is not affected & PSP9 still starts on those....
so it's an internet- issue
did corel block / disable psp9 intentionally?

I am having the same problem with PSP 9 ... suddenly a few days ago it stopped allowing use of the OPEN WITH function and also stopped allowing EXPORT TO ANIMATION SHOP function. There were Windows updates just before I discovered the problem ... I have uninstalled those updates and unstalled and re-installed PSP 9 with no success. Operating system Windows 7 professional. I'm baffled and frustrated after spending much of the last few days trying to find the cause of the problem. My machine is an HP ... but there were no HP updates just before I discovered the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Pulling the network cable has no effect for me.
I even tried to block all PSP processes in the firewall but PSP X won#T show on screen.

What the **** :D
So during uninstall and reinstall some properties were kept? And "Shift-Double Click" reset everything? I didn't know that!
It works now and I am back in business.

A huuuge thanks and I will drink a beer or two in your honour!

I heard today that it was a Dropbox update that caused the problem with PSP. They have since updated again to fix the problem, so perhaps those here that were having the problem and have Dropbox, then that was the cause.
Here is the link for Dropbox forum

Nope, it's not a PSP problem but a Dropbox problem. The Dropbox 8.4.19 update caused issues for some people with other programs also. It appears to have been caused by some change Dropbox made to a common file. You have to read that Dropbox link carefully to see what people have discovered. It was Dropbox who had to issue updates to fix the issue.
