Hello
I have VS Pro 8 and am running Windows 10
Recently the dvd's I have burnt have been ruined by flickering on both still pictures and also on video. I have tried just still pictures on their own as a slideshow but it has the same effect.
Anti flickering has been ticked.
Any ideas why this has happened or how to correct it would be gratefully received
Best wishes

Re: Flickering on dvd and slideshows
Hi weary
There could be several reasons why we get flickering on video and slide shows, the most probable is an interlacing issue.
For slide shows it may be best to use Frame Based as there is no movement on the clips so interlacing may do more harm than good.
Your original video file may use interlacing, HD would use Upper Field, although older video may be Lower Field.
Changing the interlacing from the original, whatever that is may cause quality issues.
The frame rate of your video again if changed can impact on quality, referring to 25fps to 29.97 fps
1 / Rendering the project although Smart Render works for most projects is not magic, try rendering without Smart Render.
2 / For Slide Shows use Frame Based
3 / Deselect anti Flickering
4 / Set Best for Resample Quality
What are the properties of your video file?
What are you trying to make? what are the properties of the final video file?

Re: Flickering on dvd and slideshows
Thanks Trevor for your reply
I have tried several changes which have had good results!
I was just making a slide show so I changed to Frame based as you suggested
I imported the photos as AVCHD 1920 x 1080i,
Changed resampling to best
Then I 'burnt ' it to an SD card
I now have a very sharp and satisfying slide show to watch from the SD card
Having achieved that aim, how do I get the same quality from the SD card to replicate on a DVD or is it just one of those things that the quality deteriorates when you do that.
When I imported the file/s from the Sd card to VS there were 3 that showed up on the timeline. I chose the mt2 one and it didn't work properly on a dvd, the colour wasn't good but it may have still been smart rendering when I went to share.
(I've forgotten now what the others were!) should I have picked another one?
Thanks for all the advice picked up on your site,
Weary

Re: Flickering on dvd and slideshows
Hi a
A DVD has to use Mpeg2 format.
Typically for a slide show.
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps (720 x 480 X 29,97 for ntsc)
Frame-based
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: 8000 kbps (constant)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Render the project to use the above settings.
Play the resultant video to check quality.
Start a new project to clear the timelines.
Share Create disc DVD, opens the burner module
Add Media Add Video file choose the one rendered above.
On the last page choose to burn a disc image iso.
Play the iso using VLC media player
Burn iso to disc using Tools – Burn from disc image.
