Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Anyone know if PSP X9 works with external hardware calibration devices that make a monitor profile and not have the color change once X9 launches like it did with X8?
Not worth upgrading if it hasn't been fixed yet.

It wasn't shown in the new or enhanced stuff in the PDF so no reason to assume it has been fixed. You can always experiment with the trial version if you want to.

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Me to. I'm no longer going to use PSP for any serious colour work until the color management issue is addressed. PSPx? is simply not a viable option for anyone who is doing critical colour work. But I think we are flogging a dead horse. Corel is not interested in addressing the issue. If they were someone from Corel would drop by and confirm if it was being looked at at all. Wouldn't they? Hint!

Does this issue also apply to X7?GMack wrote:Anyone know if PSP X9 works with external hardware calibration devices that make a monitor profile and not have the color change once X9 launches like it did with X8?

The color management issue has been a 'feature' of PSP for a long time.

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
The Color Management problem has been an issue since the days when JASC software developed and owned the product. Corel purchased it from JASC, and likely isn't about to spend the resources needed to fix an issue that was kind of baked into the program to start with and would likely be cost prohibitive to untangle the code needed to fix it.

Where is this issue documented in detail (e.g. with steps to reproduce)? I'd like to understand the impact.
Thanks!

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Simple answer is to turn OFF Color Management. It is the experience of a number, not all, of users that PSP's Color Management has the ability to change the computers color management. When PSP is started for the first time it changes the color management and can only be reset with a computer reboot. By turning OFF the color management, File/Color Management/Color Management uncheck Enable Color Management, you can control the color management. For critical color management I would suggest finding another editor. However PSP has some handy features. To use those without affecting color management ensure color management is turned off in PSP.

Type the words color management in the search box and you'll find various threads related to the subject.Matagalpa wrote:Where is this issue documented in detail (e.g. with steps to reproduce)? I'd like to understand the impact. Thanks!
Here's a link to a thread about X8 Service Pack 2. There was a fair amount of discussion about the color management problem some people experience:

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
If you print photos at home and use a custom printer profile as I do, the PSP Color Management System when turned ON creates some very bad looking and uncontrollable results. The work around is to turn the PSP Color Management System OFF and use the Color Management System built into your printer driver. Using this method I can create prints that closely match my calibrated screen and in some cases my prints are even stunning. I have had this problem with PSP X6, X7, and X8. I have not tried X9 to date.by brucet » Thu Aug 18, 2016 11:19 pm
Simple answer is to turn OFF Color Management. File/Color Management/Color Management uncheck Enable Color Management

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
For a long and annoying time it seemed impossible to start X8 without it interfering with my colors. Whether I enabled or disabled Color Management the colors were changed. Also I was unable to set my monitor profiles as I desired through the user interface.
Finally I found some settings in the Registry which solved the problem for me. Maybe this is useful for others as well:
Open Regedit and go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER_SOFTWARE\Corel\PaintShop Pro\X8\General\ICMSettings.After I changed MonitorProfile to the profile I want to use (the others were correct already), X8 has been behaving very well. See screendump with details below.
Worth a try and I would like to hear if others find this helpful. In that case we might be able to hold the fort till Corel delivers proper functionality.

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Because I have color management turned off, don't use a colorimeter to adjust my colors, and get print output as close as can be expected to what I see on the monitor I won't be trying your registry change. However, for those who have issues I also hope people post back about whether or not these changes work for them as they do for you. That's going to be an important bit of information for lots of people because I don't think "holding the fort" is an option. That's because I doubt that Corel is going to make any changes to color management in PSP. JASC didn't do so either back in the day despite complaints about it.

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Well, I agree that there doesn't seem to be good reasons to expect much.
I have been using PSP from the early JASC years and later on since Corel X6. I've only had the Color Management problem with X8, so I may have had the impression that this would be a passing problem. Of course also based on a general experience of most companies fixing obvious errors...
However, disabling Color Management didn't help at all, so maybe this registry edit will help some of the users.

Re: Has color management been fixed yet in X9?
Just a further note. Turning OFF/Unchecking Color Management is not the only issue. You need also to check the Image, graphic or text generated by in Color management. Above the Enable Color Management check box. Some users who have calibrated their monitors, ME, find that inserting your calibration into this will also screw up Color Management. I have reverted to sRGB Color Space Profile.icm . It's not a perfect solution but it will stop PSP from altering your calibrated monitor until you do a re boot.
To the moderators. - Is it possible to have a Sticky on Color Management? As this is a constant issue. Rather than searching the forum maybe if there was somewhere that we could all go to to grind our axe!

I just want to second that. Yes, you have to have the sRGB color space in that box at the top (I do) AND uncheck color management.brucet wrote:Just a further note.
