My PC is organised so the photo imagery (many subjects and locations, around 10,000+ or more using 23Gb of store space) has it's own logical drive, and has specific subject folders and sub-folders therein.
So it's frustrating to see X6 continually trying to build it's own image store in thumbnails, burning time (because I can't seem to stop that) and wasting storage space. I already know where they are, and navigating to them when they are needed is fine.
Is there any way I can configure the app so it doesn't do this image store build?

Don't use Manage Mode?
I have over 100000 images (stored on at least 3 Tb of external hard drives), and don't experience this proble, as I only open in Edit Mode . (File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Default Launch Workspace and in Manage you can add some folders to Uncataloged folders)

Re: Turning off building the X6 image store
Thanks for the reply.
I'd become so frustrated with that, I didn't use X6 for a while, and last year suffered a motherboard failure. Upgraded to a 64bit platform, and did not re-install X6 then as I recovered the various software. Installing X6 back to my new 64-bit platform today, there are 2 problems with your advice.
problem 1 - Uncatalogued folders.
I can get to the manage workspace preferences, but there's nothing there to select. Where are uncatalogued folders defined in the manage workspace??
problem 2 - activation key now won't work. Not sure why this is so, but have initially assumed it has something to do with the new motherboard. When I bought X6, the practice was to install the TBYB version, and then insert the keys (program license key and activation key) when bought. That worked originally on a 32bit motherboard. Re-installing today, initially I installed the 64 bit version, and got an invalid activation key per the capture above. Uninstalled and re-installed the recommended 32 and 64bit version - which turns out to have 2 program icons on the desktop (32bit and 64bit), but I get the same message when I try to activate on the 32bit version.
How do I get the program to activate?

Re: Turning off building the X6 image store
In the Preferences section Manage it should say
Thumbnail Images in blue and below that
Excluded Items also in blue
Two itens there :
File Format Exclusions and Uncataloged Folders.
Clicking Uncataloged Folders opens a new dialog window and it says there Do not catalog these folders and gives a list of folders as well as an Add button lower left to add further folders.
For the Activation key if you registered your software you should have a Corel Account and should be able to log in there and check on your registration of that software and also confirm your serial number .
If that still won't work then you may have to contact Corel and plead with them to reset the amount of instals so you can reinstall.

Re: Turning off building the X6 image store
Found the uncatalogued item, thank you. I basically need to select most of my computer drives for this (because altho there are main local and network drives for pictures, there are picture items elsewhere, eg a jpg file of a visio circuit drawing, stored on a separate drive where that circuit data is saved).
As to the activation code issue, after day 1 of the new install and several unsucccessful attempts at activating (prior post) via the "only xx days left to trial" panel that appears before the program splash screen:
- license key shows in the help/about/info panel
- the X6 product and license key is in my Corel account registered products list.
On day 2 (today) when starting PS X6, I did not get that "you have only xxdays remaining of the free trial" panel, in which the insert license and activation key boxes are presented. Since the license key is validly inserted maybe that turned this panel off. But it doesn't clarify whether activation is done or remains to be done.
From the various posts on an activation search topics list in the Corel support pages I've discerned this:
- activation keys were only used for previous generations of trial products. However, having assessed a trial, and bought it, why you would need 2 codes (license + activation) when a shop-bought or online-bought version only requires one (license key), is confusing to say the least.
- activation keys were apparently generated based on the computer the licensed program was activated from. Which probably explains while a valid code fails when installed on a new motherboard desktop. But see next 2 items
- generally, no explanation of why the original (and worked at the time) activation code is invalid on another PC. For example, Video Studio can be installed on several machines, or even several versions on one machine, but cannot all run at the same time.
- new activation codes no longer supplied for legacy products. Which X6 would be at this stage. But having bought it and properly licensed/registered it, continued usage on a platform of choice (any expectation that hardware lasts forever is a pipe dream) is entirely reasonable even if by Corel's lights it is superseded.
Given that X6 now starts without any 'days remaining' warning and lists the correct license key in the about panel, does activation still need to be done?
