I have just had the same problem with a file created in PSP X9. The pspimage file is about 150MB with about 12 layers. It had been saved successfully several times, but not the most recent time. I had the same problem in X8 on several occasions and it even could not read TIFF files it had just created. Corel support usually suggests generic fixes (uninstall and reinstall Clean", etc.), but they do not solve the problem. The tech assigned to my case just responded and he has me with an entirely different Corel Video program that I have never owned. I hope it gets better after I told him of the error. Any true solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have used psp for years and never had a problem - until now. I still use psp x5 and yesterday I seemed to have trouble with the histogram layer. I could not determine if it was the histogram layer itself or the underlying raster layer of the layer group. The result was much too brightness. After a while by adding/deleting layers it seemed to work and I saved the image as always as a pspimage file, 2 groups +/- 5 layers in each group.
Today I got that "image could not be opened message". I checked with older files, some open ok, some don't. It might be that the ones that do not open have more than 1 layer group but I can't be sure of that.
So I downloaded a the trial version of psp x9. X9 also could not open the files.
As a lot of work went into those images I am really not amused. If you can't trust a program to open the files it creates that's a no-go. Of course neither irfanview nor gimp can open the files.
Although it was reassuring to see that others also have the problem and that it is not because of some glitch with my setup I certainly will not use PSP until this is resolved by Corel and paying for the upgrade to X9 evidently is out of question.
It is a shame as I have used psp since Jasc Paint Shop 3.0
