Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
With all the complaints about it and only today hearing from a couple of you who say it doesn't crash your X9 it was looking like the crash problem with Free Rotate was a bug that affected everyone. The fact that this isn't the case will be important for the engineers who are hopefully looking for a solution. So far, reading the other posts, I haven't discerned a commonality among those who experience the crash issue. It would likely be helpful if more people who DON'T have the issue would post, making sure their profiles provide sufficient info about their operating systems and specs.Joelle wrote:It doesn't crash mine. Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
FWIW, with a pspimage open, I applied text and could rotate it using the bounding box curved arrows without PSP crashing. But when I attempted the same thing using Image > Free Rotate, PSP crashed as soon as I set the Free Rotate angle. I didn't even get to press the OK button. I reopened PSP and tried again and this time first unticked the "All layers" box before changing the angle for Free Rotate. This time it worked. Tried it again with a different angle, and again it worked without a crash. But the fourth time I tried, PSP crashed again before I got to the OK button.
What this tells us, I haven't the faintest idea!
If using the bounding box arrows to free rotate (which I usually use) continues to work, I am in any case happy as I normally don't use the Free Rotate command. Just using it here to see what happens...

Interesting info, Ken. Particularly given that in your tests it wasn't crashing all the time with All Layers unchecked. So it's intermittent, at least in some circumstances.

Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
I tried again. Free rotate with buttons not works anymore, crash the PSPX9...
Two days before its worked, Its sure, because I used exactly 10 degrees with left orientation.
Meantime I completly uninstalled PSPX8 & PSPX9 with your spec cleaner apps, and after that I reinstalled PSPX8 & PSPX9.
I remember that, when I firstly installed PSPX9 (when free rotate worked) I imported the setting from PSPX8.
But yesterday, when I reinstalled the apps, I installed the PSPX9 with the original settings. Maybe it's doesn't matter, just try to help...

Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
Same issue here, I read all the thread and still no fix or answer. I contacted Corel support and nothing yet.
I purchased X9 just yesterday. Had been using older versions before and what a mistake. I worked for hours as well on 3 files (no Free rotation used) saved all before going to bed. Today first thing after tuning on my computer trying to open the 3 files again and one of them gives the error "unable to open the file. please verify that the file is valid"
I'm scare of keep using the program, now I feel that all my files will stop working in any moment, this is NOT ACCEPTABLE!
There should be at least a tool where the file can be uncorrupted or something so it can open again.
HEEEELP!!!!

Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
That image would not open in my X9 -- or for that matter X8 and X7. In each case I got a message "Cannot open file. Make sure it is a valid format" or words to that effect.
Curiously enough, Windows File Manager showed a preview of the file, and I could open it in a photo management program I have (Ashampoo Photo Commander).
Various other pspimage files still open in both X9 and X8, including the ones I experimented with above. But X7 would not open any of these images.
EDIT: PhotoCommander does not offer pspimage as a format I could resave the image in. However, it does allow a variety of others, including Photoshop .psd. So I saved a copy in that and it opened fine in PSP X9... However, I don't think this image will be of any use to you as it is tiny. That is also how the original looks in both File Manager and PhotoCommander despite the original's 15 MB size. The psd copy came out at only 410 KB and the pspimage copy of that at a meagre 143 KB.

Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
Is this an issue that's happening with just some people that might be system specific? Or could it be an issue with some people depending on the specific save options they are choosing? Perhaps the bug is in the save options. Just a thought.

Thanks for trying Ken. At this point I found somebody that somehow was able to open it (not sure what format) and save it in jpg which is bad because I lost my layers but at least I did not loose all my work however, considering I have only purchased PSP 9X 2 days ago I'm thinking on just getting my 30-day money back as this is not ok and I'm afraid to work on the app unless they come up with a patch for this or a tool that recovers files that may have this issue. It's obviously not an isolate case as I have read in different forums it has been happening since few weeks ago.

In case others haven't seen this other thread, Joseph Lin, the Corel exec in charge of PSP, has posted a couple of possible work-arounds: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 79#p332879

Re: X9 pspimage unable to open the file please verify...
I'm paralyzed. All previous projects unopenable. Get "Unable to open the file. Please verify that the file is valid." Projects are no larger than 25 mb and maybe 10 layers. I'm not as worried about recreating the projects. But I am paralyzed because I can't trust the program going forward. I'm in a department surrounded by Mac Photoshop users. I'm the engineer guy on a PC who decided to use the affordable PSP program. Did I get what I paid for?

I think the file is damaged and you will need to do everything again. It doesn't look repairable at my end. I can't even open it in PS 2015.5, PSE14, PSP 8 & 9
