PSP X9

Post by DougP »

Hi all.
Got the new X9.
It's been great so far. Just a small thing annoying me with it. I use Brush often. I make my own but ATM with X9 there is a advertisement to buy some. I'd love to see this gone!
Haven't been able to find anything in the preference setting to get rid of it.

Any ideas with this would be gratefully appreciated.

If you go to C:\ProgramData\Corel\Messages and C:\Users\[Your Name]\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Messages you can delete everything in those folders. Unfortunately, this will only get rid of the current crop of unwelcome messages. When Corel decided to offer something else, they will appear in one or both of those folders, but at least you know where they are so you can clear them out.

I don't have X9, but in X7 and X8 there is a way to stop those messages from appearing in the Brushes dialogue that somebody posted awhile ago. I used it and don't have any messages there - just a narrow rectangular empty box. Unfortunately, I forget the instructions and how I did it. :-( However, perhaps somebody else remembers and will post here.

EDIT: Found it! Here's a link to the page where the solution was posted:

And here's a copy of the post:

Corel has no plans to stop the in app advertisements that they have forced upon us. Found a workaround, however it will leave a blank spot where the advertisements once appeared. Under C:ProgramData/Corel/Corel PaintShop Pro X8/IPP , replace "storeData.json" with a empty file by same name and change the attributes to " read only".

I also, added 127.0.0.1 ipp.corel.com to my hosts file, although not sure if this was necessary.

In addition, I plan on writing a letter to the CEO (Patrick Nichols) to express my displeasure that his company has taken upon themselves to force nagware on those of us that have purchased his fine product. I really do like PaintShop, but I don't enjoy spending my hard earned money every year for advertisements.

Hope this helps,

Chip
There is another message delivery system Corel uses also, I believe, not counting the one in the Brushes dialogue. To turn those off just go to Help>Message Preferences and uncheck the boxes.

Thank you guy's. I've done both of your suggestions.
Down side is the dropdown box is still larger then it has to be but oh well. It is what it is I guess.

Yes, as @csh2000 & I noted, it does leave a blank spot, but that's less annoying than the ads. :-)

Re the messages:

I've been getting what one would call adverts in the bottom right hand corner of my screen from time to time. I can't tell if this is what you are talking about. I discovered they were coming from

Code: Select all

C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\CUH\v2\CUH.exe
I renamed the folder, no more messages.

(It will come back with updates)

a json file is just a text file with the extension ".json" instead of ".txt" So just create a new text document, then rename it to "storeData.json"

Thanks, I didn't know that.

I tried the fix but for some reason it didn't work. I even cleared cache thinking that might be the problem. I still get the annoying "do more with brushes" that jumps out at you when you click on the paint brush tool and attempt to select a brush.

So first I'm assuming that you created a text file with nothing in it named storeData.json to replace the existing file?

After that, did you follow the second step as follows:

"I also, added 127.0.0.1 ipp.corel.com to my hosts file, although not sure if this was necessary."

Yes, correct.

Initially no, but I did go back and do the second step to add to the hosts file. All that accomplished was removing the pictures from the "Do More With Brushes" section. Here's what it looks like after the hosts file edit.

When I saw that it seemed to partially work I thought it might be an issue with cache so I cleared the cache again but that made no difference.

I've reverted to the unedited host file for now.

Thanks for trying Joe. So disgusted with Corel foisting ads on us. :x
