Corel account problem

Post by Joelle »

I am experiencing a problem updating my email address in My Account on the Corel website.
I log in using my saved old email address, go to My Account>email address.
Change it to my new address, and the site says
"An account with that email address already exists in our system".

My immediate reaction is that it is an imposter, there is only one me!
My new email address is letters and numbers and there is no way there could be two of those.
How do I correct the information, does anyone know?

Have you tried signing in separately with your 'new' credentials?

Have you tried logging into Corel.com with the new e-mail address - if the site tells you the password you are using is incorrect then use the "forgot password" option to set a new password which will be sent to your new e-mail - take control of that account and see what it is

Ah, I hadn't thought of signing in with new credentials, will try that.
The forgotten password might not work, as it is the email address they say is wrong, not the password, but I will try that too :-)

Just in case it all goes pear-shaped, I copied all the text!
There are a lot of serial numbers in there.

Thank you gentlemen, I'll let you know of my success/failure :-)

Later Edit:
Nope, neither worked.
They didn't accept my 'new' account, saying I already exist in their system.

And to add another angle to Corel's My Account, a few weeks ago I discovered that once you log in to My Account there is no way to log out. If you close the tab if someone else comes along and accesses My Account the last user's information shows up. The probability of this is low but in this age of security and privacy it is wrong not to be able to log out - I think every other account I use can be closed.

After one attempt to get someone's attention about this problem, today I went back to the site and found that one of the options under Support is to initiate a live chat. So I did that and had an interesting exchange with Rose. At first she suggested what I could do to avoid problems for myself but after I insisted that this is a change that Corel should install for all visitors she responded that there have been many complaints and this has been reported to the Development team, but of course nothing has been done. Sound familiar?

I have felt for some time that the Corel culture is one of extreme inertia and this is another example. And with such inertia how can you change the culture?

I usually close tabs in the browser to leave a site but to log out I need to close the browser itself.

I would agree with your comment about 'inertia'!

I haven't experienced your problem as closing the page seems to log me out.

Have just tried to reset my password, quoting my new email address.
Got a auto reply, used that to set a new password.
Then logged in with the new password and mayhem!
My old address still shows.
I can login using my old address and old password.

I can feel a severe headache coming on.. :-(
