X8 - OffLine Installer
Is there an offline installer for Trial product of PaintShop Pro X8?
When I try to download it, I get a very small file which requires an Internet connection to download the full package. My hone connection is metered and very slow so I can only use the College computers to download big files.
Also, when is X9 coming out. I can wait for it if it is not coming out soon.
Thanks.

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
Some registered users of previous versions have already received an upgrade offer for X9. So I think the formal release is only a matter of a few days away...Also, when is X9 coming out. I can wait for it if it is not coming out soon.
EDIT: I see that in fact it is now available http://dev.www.paintshoppro.public.core ... /#overview

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
Corel, along with many others, have no idea how some folks are restricted by their internet 'conditions'. Not everyone has fast internet speeds and huge monthly capacities. We are now in a world where the 'nerds' simply think that everyone one is connected to high speed services. Ask Adobe how many folks have dropped out due to 'cloud' requirements.
But there is another issue. Corel purchased PSP and lazy programmers have simply added and added and added features without regards to programming effciencies. My PSPx8 file is over 300meg. Where my Photoline file is only 25meg. Yet Photoline is a far more powerful and complex program. One set of code writers are simply lazy or incapable of considering factors other that writing code with disregard for other factors than their own.
I'm one of the lucky one. I have a 50mb service. But I pay a high price for monthly downloads. So my solution is to avoid programs that have cumbersome downloads or wait until I'm in a hotel that provides a better, is somewhat less secure, service.
There needs to be more awareness of what users environments really are. Corel is now one of those companies painting themselves into a corner that only caters for those with internet conditions that suit their requirements. They are simply making it too hard for many users and those users are thrilled with editors such as Photoline. (One of my computers is still asking me to register PSPx7. No one at Corel has woken up to the fact that that computer will NEVER be connected to the internet. The internet has become a drug of choice and everyone is getting hooked!!
edit - before anyone at Corel dismisses my ranting as just another ignorant user. I spent many hours studying for a certificate, diploma and degree in System Analysis, Data Processing, Programming and other computer related issues. I do have a bit of an idea of how a computer and software works!!!
regards

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
I have just noticed that Corel has decided not to provide a full offline installer so that they can make money by chrging you insurance. for example, I was going to upgrade my X8 but notice what they are doing:

Of course I can remove it from the basket but I need to have a backup of the original big fat file so that I don't have to rely on internet connection.
Surely, Corel can do better than this!! The software industry is very competitive out there and sooner they realise the better it will be for their bottom line!!

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
I have never taken out the download insurance from anyone, including Corel. Once downloaded, I then copy the downloaded files to another drive (or DVD) which then serves as backup forever...

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
but the question is how do you know what has been dowloaded? All they provide is a basic stub of size 1.9 MB (Check out file: pspx8.0.exe or whatever they are now offering) and when you run this, it downloads the rest of the files.Ken Berry wrote:I have never taken out the download insurance from anyone, including Corel. Now you need to know where exactly are these files downloaded to. I have checked in all temp folders and still can't find them. this file installes directly on your machine and so it might be deleting the downloaded files but I have not been able to track them down.
Do you know anything about this?

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
OK thanks to all who replied. I seem to have solved this by using a link on paintshppro website. the links are there but they are not available to the general public. It reminds me of Adobe doing this by hiding their FTP servers until somebody created a site on which he provided direct links to these FTP servers to download any Adobe products - old and new.

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
Maybe that is because the program is not YET available to the general public. Wait for the official release and the link WILL be on the Corel site.
You got the PRE-RELEASE link.

Re: X8 - OffLine Installer
that is pretty poor. Frikin download insurance. WTF.
As a software company you have to be careful that the pirates are not getting a better service, (let alone a free service,) than your paying customers.
Plus by such a time the updates would most likely have been slipstreamed in to the installer. It's pretty crappy behaviour and like i say the pirates have non of these problems.
A far better system would be you log in, all your products are available to download.

Very sensible. But optical media degrade, especially recordable optical media, as well as getting scratched or lost. And there is stuff like ransom ware that encrypts all your files. In essence you would only need another copy of the installer in a recovery scenario such as a hard drive failure where you may also have lost your original. The idea of cloud backing up your installer for paintshop is absurd.Ken Berry wrote:I have never taken out the download insurance from anyone, including Corel.
