Balls & Bubbles Version X8

Post by Muriel »

Good Afternoon!

I posted in an older forum that I am having the same issues with Version X8 on Windows 10 as I had with Version X6 on Windows 8. The Balls & Bubbles effect makes the program freeze so it has to be closed using Task Manager.

OS: Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) 4700CPU @ 12GB
Ram: 12GB
System Type: 64 Bit

I learned that perhaps some of the adjustments I had made may be the culprits, especially the Environmental and Displacement Maps file locations. I shall check that out, and I do think this may well be the problem. (I just added all the file locations except the pesky Maps and all seems good! :D Wish I had clued into this years ago.)

BUT.. while the Inner Bevel effect worked flawlessly when the program was first installed, it is now grayed out except when the 'Customize' window is open. The instant I close the 'Customize' window, this effect grayed out. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and that issue is still there. Reverted to default state and it is still grayed out. And when I open the 'Effects' toolbar, it is missing. What am I doing wrong? (This issue, however, remains! :| )

Furthermore, when I close the program to install the updates, it informs me that "Corel Paint Shop Pro is currently running. Please close the application first and try again". Again, what am I doing wrong?

Many thanks..

Muriel!

Hello..

She's Baaaack!

I am sure that in earlier versions when using the preset shapes, I could produce the shape as a vector layer, then manipulate it (line shape, width, colour). Seems that in Versions X6 and X8, once I have drawn the shape, it is set and I can do nothing more with it. While I can actually change the line design, colour and width, the shape itself doesn't change. Is there a workaround for this?

Once you have drawn out the preset shape from whatever preset shape you choose, you have to then select the Pen tool. Using that tool you can change line type, stroke width, manipulate the shape, and change colors using the Materials palette. Works for me in X8 and likely all versions of PSP.

Inner Bevel works for me in X8. It is found under Effects>3D Effects.

Open Task Manager and see if there is still a Paintshop Pro process still running. With almost all versions of PSP there is an intermittent bug where, even though you have closed the program, there is still a process running.

Good Evening, JoeB!

Thank-you so much for this thoughtful reply! I tried the pen trick and BINGO! It works exactly the way you said it would. You have made this ol' lady very happy! I began this PSP adventure waaaay back when Version 8 was the latest and greatest. Every version comes with its own unique challenges.

I opened Task Manager and there are no errant PSP versions running

The inner bevel works when I make the image a selection. I do not recall having to do this in the earlier versions.

Again, many thanks for your prompt reply and sharing your knowledge with me.

Muriel!
