Does anyone know the best unit / method i can get to transfer my older minidv over to my PC...i think i recall using Firewire but my PC doesnt have this installed.
On Amazon etc, these transfer boxes and / or the basic cables are all I can see...just wanting to get the best quality I can from my older Minidv tapes.
Any thoughts?

Buy a Firewire card and cable, usually 6 pin to 4 pin
Transferring video from MiniDV Tape creates AVI files, DV - Avi at approx 13Gb per hour.
This is done without any re-coding, the MiniDV tape contains digital data and as such effectively copied to the pc.
The quality you have on camcorder is the quality you get.
DV-Avi is a lossless format and as such no quality loss when editing and saving to DV-Avi.
If you use transfer boxes or USB devices then the video stream will be recoded and probably affect quality.
