What is the difference between the two products? I have not been able to find a side by side comparison of the features of these two products; in fact, I haven't been able to find anything listing AfterShot 3 Standard, only AfterShot Pro 3.csh2000 wrote:When I downloaded AfterShot, I noticed that it was not AfterShot Pro 3, but AfterShot Standard V3.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
I agree that Corel's site doesn't seem to say anything about a Standard edition of ASP. There is another short thread in this forum about ASP 2 Standard and Pro that doesn't answer the question either but does seem to indicate that there are both Standard and Pro versions. Corel seems to be hiding info, perhaps because the Standard (and likely more crippled) version is only available as a bonus when purchasing PSP and used as a come-on to get those people to pay to upgrade to the version sold retail.Kathy_9 wrote:What is the difference between the two products? Here's the link to that other very short and not very informative thread:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?p=323868
EDIT: Here's a link to another, somewhat more informative thread on the subject. It leaves no doubt that the bundled ASP is a "Standard" version missing some features, like HDR. This link also provides info on how some people have solved the problem of their attempts to upgrade to Pro not working. It also shows Corel's complete lack of support for people having issues with this.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
Went to the Corel website to see if I could find more info on this upgrade. "Chatted" on-line - but Corel has not told their on-line chatters anything about X9. And the promo-page has nothing on it that would make me part with $59.00. I was hoping for a panorama tool - but I think they would have featured that if it was included. I already have Aftershot 3 pro so no advantage there - I suppose if I didn't it might be interesting.
Will have to wait until they post the comparing the versions page to make any decision but nothing I've seen or read is moving me to purchase.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
Soooo, I'm looking to buy, first time newbie, decided to avoid the Adobe domination (I'm a bit of a contrarian) and have seen x7 Ultimate as the way to go, x8 Ultimate problems, now x9 Ultimate being questioned.
Now in a state of total confusion, and with the ability to still get x7, or buy x8, or dive into the new x9; what would be my best most useful and reliable, bug free version? I'm thinking x7, but x8 did add some stuff I'd like to have, but still hearing reports of unrecoverable crashes. What would knowledgeable people do if it was their first purchase, and NOT an upgrade?
Or, should I just go with the herd and take the Adobe route?
Many thanks in advance!

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
I think X9 is a very stable product. It has some nice new features, not many. Good tutorials about the use of the product. Unfortunately many old minor bugs that most users would not notice have not been fixed. I've used PSP for many years and I think this version is worth trying, especially for a newbie.Buffett wrote:Soooo, I'm looking to buy, first time newbie, decided to avoid the Adobe domination (I'm a bit of a contrarian) and have seen x7 Ultimate as the way to go, x8 Ultimate problems, now x9 Ultimate being questioned.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
Just installed PSP X9. Already have major glitch. When using the pasted selection free rotate tool the program crashes. Have been in touch with Corel tech support. They don't know why. Tried unistalling and reinstalling. No luck. Not enough testing I guess.

Could you explain the detailed steps to reproduce the problem ?

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro X9 - A big disappointment!!
I really wasn't interested in the Aftershock or most of the other things that came with X9 so most of what has been discussed doesn't mean a lot to me.
Screen cap was interesting but it doesn't work. Each time I've tried to use it, it failed. Not that, that bothered me.
The thing that's important here is PSP X9.
I bought X7. It was glitchy and prone to crashing. Tools failed to work correctly. I went back to X6. More stable.
Trialed X8. No better. Same issues plus a few added ones. X8 wasn't worth the hard drive space. Stayed with X6 again.
Now, I have had X9 for about a week. Doesn't seem long but I'm using it every day for most of the day in some form or another. So far it's been the better of the three latest versions. Far more stable then the other two. Haven't had a tool fail. Pen tool which I use constantly has been the most noticeable improvement in X9 for me. The text tool is also heavily used. In X8 this was a total nightmare. Crashed all the time. Failed to edit previous vector text. Specially when using a curved text.
So far X9 has performed this task without fault. Opens and edits X6 saved work without issue.
As for this threads heading "X9 A big disappointment!!" so far is inaccurate. The disappointment was X7 and X8.
I have to admit I don't use it to edit photos. Don't use RAW images. So have no opinion on these areas of the program. But if what I do use is any indication on the performance on the rest if not up to your expectation could be or should be better then previous versions.
The newbie looking to buy.
I'd recommend X9 far more then either X7 or X8.
For those that are experiencing stability issues. For the most part this has a lot to do with your PC. Clean it up. Do some maintenance. If you don't know how, take it to your local PC repair shop. It's far cheaper then a new PC or laptop.

I have also been able to reproduce this crash in X9.
Image > Free Rotate use the free Rotate radio button and try and change the angle and it crashes.
Works Ok in X8 so makes one wonder why with the introduction of some new features they stuffed up the coding for this.
