Now you have to start your new text before changing the font options and can change any font setting without entering edit mode first. They're trade-offs. Some will find it handy, others not so much. But all in all, it's just a general change that if you use X9 you will have to get used to.
OK I finally see what you mean "different order of operations." You can't set your text options before entering text; you have to put down the text first then choose the font and size and colors. Who in their right mind would think this was a good idea? You basically have to edit the text every time. In order to run a script to put text on multiple images; I have to enter text first, then set the options, then delete that text so the script runs with the correct text properties. If I don't, it reverts to the previous settings. This is what I thought was a glitch the first time I used the program when the text settings kept reverting to the default; now you say this is a feature. This is a deal breaker for X9 and there was no option to download a trial version to see what it was like.

Corel continues to break things in new versions that worked well in previous versions; and I foolishly keep buying the program thinking that's going to change.

I'm not sure he meant you had to lay down your new text first. I think you only have to click the cursor at the spot you want to lay down the new text and then you can change the options before actually typing the text.

Either way, you can't set the parameters first. Whether you have to put down the text or just click on the image, you can't run a script without doing one or the other. I tested it this morning. When you press T to use the text tool, it puts a vector layer on your image whether you start typing or not. If you change the font or size or colors from what it was the last time you added text and then run a script or add text manually, the parameters change to what you used before. That's not a feature I would ever use. I don't know why anyone would.

I can make all the changes fonts etc, I simply have lost the ability to Highlight a portion of text to, say, correct a mistake! I was able to do this last week. Something has changed!

The issues I wrote about were corrected in one of the updates. I can click inside the text to edit it, or press ctrl + a to select it all, then use the arrow keys to move through the text.
