Hi guys
I have just downloaded a trial version of X9 (will now look at X9.5) and pleased to find it works. I never got my old X6 pro back after upgrading to Windows 7 - 64 bit version. even though I deleted the windows updates KB 3134814;3126587 and 3126593, but that is now in the past.
A friend of mine has asked whether I would be able to extract the files from one of his old home-made DVDs and re-edit them in X9 with added photos and music.
He does not still have the old video files that made up the dvd he wants edited.
Can this be done in X9 ? If so, can you advise me please.
I have tried to convert the vob files on one of my old dvds to mp4 but found the file size was reduced from 3.3gb to 550mb with a comparable loss of quality.
Your help, as always, is much appreciated.
Thanks
Mark

Re: Re-editing old dvds
Usually you can just change the .vob extension to .mpg because that is what the vob files really are: DVD-compatible mpeg-2 files. There is no point in converting the vob to mp4 because mp4 is not DVD-compatible and would have to be converted once again when edited back to mpeg-2. This will of course erode quality.
If greater fine tuning in what is imported from the DVDs is required, then insert the DVD, select Insert Digital Media, then navigate to the DVD drive. It will show a tree structure of what is on the disc. To select specific elements, tick the relevant little box which appears with each item.
Just be aware, since you are using the trial version of X9, that it is severely crippled and may not do what you are wanting it to do.

Just to addKen Berry wrote: Just be aware, since you are using the trial version of X9, that it is severely crippled and may not do what you are wanting it to do.
By crippled, there is no means of burning any type of disc using the trial version of X9
As for X6 -- did not replacing the MUIhelper.dll file fix that for you.
Try again, make sure you have actually replaced the file and not copied it as a copy?
Get X6 running and you can import DVD discs.
Right click timeline for Import Digital media, browse for disc.

Hi guys
Just back on the forum after nearly a year and see that I did not reply to your previous help.
My apologies for this, I did not progress with that particular task, went on holiday and then it went out of my mind.
So sorry.
I am about to post a new query under separate heading and would appreciate your comments once again.
kind regards
Mark

I've just tried Ken's advice. .vob conversion worked perfectly and the quality is pretty good.Ken Berry wrote:Usually you can just change the .vob extension to .mpg because that is what the vob files really are: DVD-compatible mpeg-2 files.
