Capture problems

Post by Hooter »

I'm trying to capture video from a Sony HC40 and am having problems. I'm using the DVD High Quality setting, 7000 kbps settings. The capture lasts about 5 minutes, and then stops.

I'm using a Compaq laptop with 2.8 ghz processor and 512 mb RAM.

Can anyone give me some ideas to help?

Thanks

I would try lowering your setting allite , it probably is to much for the components you have.

you can try useing custom , and set bitrate down like 6500 or even 5200
and see if you still get this time out problem.

my best guess. hope it helps.

I have a similar problem for which I've raised a tech support ticket.

On my setup (Canon MV3i, Athlon 64 3200, 1Gb RAM, 76gb free disk) I notice that, regardless of whether I specify Full DV Tape or 1:00:00:00 duration, capture will stop if there is a gap in the recording on the DV tape.

For example, if I've taped something, then played it back and overshot the end of the recording and therefore recording next starts after a few seconds of blank tape, this happens.

What version of DVD MovieFactory do you use? If you are not using a trial version, have you applied the update packs in http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf.htm ?

How do you connect your camcorder to your PC? Is it via Firewire or USB?

If you are using a Firewire connection, what capture plug-in do you use in DVDMF and what the Firewire driver is in the device manager?

If you are using TI-1394 capture plug-in, try MS-1394 capture plug-in instead.

If the Firewire driver is TI OHCI-Complaint IEEE 1394 Host Controller or Texas Instrument OHCI-Complaint IEEE 1394 Host Controller, please change the driver to OHCI-Complaint IEEE 1394 Host Controller because some Firewire chip will have problems with the TI driver (especially on Compaq laptops).

If the camcorder is connected via USB, please check if the USB port is USB 2.0 complaint, or use Firewire 1394 instead.

If you have tried all of above and still no luck, you can contact Ulead Tech Support.

Hope this helps.

Thanks HT. I'll check all that out and post the result here.

I have the same problem, it stops after 10mins of capture (when capturing straight to mpeg). I'm using MF v3.5, so there are no updates for it. Also, don't care for their support, they assume it's the users and not their software.

If not capture to MPEG directly, will it capture the video OK?
How do you capture the video?? Via IEEE 1394 connection?

Captures regularly just fine. Yes, I do use the firewire for capturing/transfering my video.

Did you mention to Ulead Tech Support that you can capture video fine if not capture directly to MPEG??

h.t. - in reply to your post...

If you are not using a trial version, have you applied the update packs in http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf.htm ? - I have applied:
dmf3_patch_dll_e.exe
dmf3_patch2_dll_e.exe
udf2betapatch_e.exe

I'm afraid to say it still does exactly the same thing. It can't be a coincidence that it stops at gaps in the tape, can it? Tapes with no gaps are fully captured.

It's all very frustrating!

I think the GAP might make DVDMF think your video is finished. But maybe you can use the capture interface in DVDMF to scroll the tape to where you wish to start to capture and capture the rest part from the tape?

I think that is exactly what is happening, but it's wrong that the application is telling me that I can capture a full tape, or capture a duration, when the code actually won't do it.

It looks to me as if the code which ends the capture is looking for the end of the tape (triggered when it sees a blank period of more than a few seconds) as a higher priority trigger than reaching the end of the duration specified by the user (Full DV tape or Duration).

You are right that I can always start the capture again from where the recording resumes on the tape, but I don't want to have to nurse every capture, I need to be able to start the capture and come back when it's done - I'd rather have a few minutes of blank video in the capture file, which I can edit out, than continually have to restart the capture.

Thaknks H.T.

I look forward to hearing what happens! I really would like to continue using DVDMF as the rest of the application is pretty good.
