Failure of DVD while copying from DVD+RW to DVD+r

Post by linson54 »

I have created a movie onto DVD+RW disc, using DVD MovieFactory after downloading from camcorder. It worked well and then I tried to copy this movie from DVD+RW disc onto a DVD+r disc using the DVD MovieFactory. The copy went on well and I got the final result as successful copy. But this DVD+r disc is not recognised by any of the DVD players including my PC. The format of the movie is DVD-Video. What can be the problem? Do I have to switchover to other format like DVD+VR? What do these different formats mean?

I gather the problem is you, or rather, the settings you used. It's only a hunch but, without any sort of detail, nobody can be more specific.

If you have a DVD created on DVD+RW, why do you use MF to copy this and which way did you go about it?

You could just use any burning software you have and do a straight copy.

You got me puzzled

Did the +R disc get finalized (or closed) :?:

Copy the +RW to a folder on your hard drive (VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders), then use MF to burn the DVD from your HD to disc.

DVD-video & DVD+VR

Post by linson54 »

First I tried copying the disc using Nero Express. After reading the DVD+RW I have inserted the DVD+r and immediately it gave some error message stating that it could not be copied. That is the reason I tried with Ulead software. In this case the copying was successful, but the disc is not recognised by any of the players. My doubt is this particular format DVD-video. What is the difference between DVD-video and DVD+VR? Can anybody clarify?

Hi,
As George said, copy the dvd to the harddisk first.
Drag the video_ts folder to the harddisk so the video_ts folder is
also on the harddisk.

Usually you cannot do a direct copy of one format dvd to another.
If you try to copy a dvd-r to a dvd+r you will get an error if trying to
copy "On The Fly". Different formats.
Some programs can do this but they copy the contents to the harddisk
first and then burn the new format.

If you use Nero to burn the dvd+r then make sure to select
NEW -> dvd video
On the compliation window drag the video_ts folder from the harddisk
into the video_ts folder in the compliation window.
The disk needs to be identified as a dvd-video disk.

When you copied it maybe it's just a regular data disk.

Does the dvd+r play in the computer using the ulead dvd player or
another software player?

Can your dvd players for the TV play DVD+R's.
In Nero if your burner supports it you can change the booktype of the
dvd+r to dvd-rom which makes the dvd much more compatible for players.
In Nero select the properties of the recorder -> Advanced Icon etc.

Hope this helps,

MD
