Re: Uploading minidv to my PC
Hi
There are many tutorials on line regarding Firewire
https://techpaul.wordpress.com/2007/09/ ... r-machine/
http://www.wikihow.com/Install-a-3-Port-IEEE-1394-Card
the info is pretty good and easy to understand. It mentions firewire speeds, with originals being 400Mbps, certainly my card will be one of these as its as old as the hills. Does a good job at least it did last time I use it.
I mentioned earlier 6 port to 4 port cable, the tutorial shows the 6 port end of the cable, your camcorder will have a 4 port terminal, maybe called DV-out, DVi, or I-Link?
So a 4 pin to 6 pin cable is required.
If you are unsure ask at your local computer shop, I am sure they will advise especially if you purchase from them, and if you pay for them to do the job then you will get some sort of warranty?
But they are easy to install, usually plug and play, but if software is required will come with an installation disc.

And a quote from here:-
http://superuser.com/questions/455253/f ... x-or-pci-e
“Any firewire card should work in both PCI and PCIe slots. However if you plug a firewire-800 card into a PCI slot then you will probably not reach maximum speed. But it should still work”
and my thought, if you are only using the one device (your camcorder) then 400mbps should be good enough for you.
