Weird problems printing

I have Aftershot Pro 2 and 3 installed on my Linux Mint 17 LTS OS.
I have 2 printers
- a basic HP Deskjet 5100 that works perfectly with everything and
- a Canon iX6500 photo printer that works with everything except AFP

Basically I send pictures to a printer profile then hit print and it says its printing.
The job appears in the print driver queue and is reported as complete. but nothing
emerges from the printer!

When I do the same with the HP the print emerges after the job appears in the
job queue as expected.

But if I open the same image in the preview tool and hit print it comes out OK.
So the OS->printer link works. Just not with ASP?

Does anyone else have this combination (AFP/Canon ix6500) working?
Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot it?

PS. I have a Windows box with Photoshop Elements installed, I'm about
to boot it up to see if it will print OK. I'll let you know how that goes...
