jumping when scubbing through editor.
Just started to use X9 and have a problem with the viewing whilst editing Instead of seeing the video play as it was shot the video jumps along the time line.
When I first place it on the time line it is ok if I do any editing it starts to play the resulting video a in a jumping fashion. Once it is rendered it plays Ok.
Can anyone suggest a cure?
Regards

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
Would I be correct in thinking that the video is high definition? If so, then looking at your computer specifications I think that you should use SmartProxy (in Preferences > Edit). This will make copies ("Proxies") of your original clips in a standard definition format which will play back smoothly. You do your editing on those, and when satisfied the edits are applied to the high definition originals. Just remember to be patient as it takes a little while for the proxies to be made.

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
HI Ken Thanks for the reply and help.
I have since discovered that it is only happening with video I have transferred from Gopro videos. I transfer the original video from gopro sdcard into a file on my computer. They are in AVI format. One of the reasons for upgrading from X4 to X9. Using the gopro editing is so long winded. I can place a clip AVi , from the original gopro transfer, onto the time line and it works superb as it should do, no juddering etc, I then do an edit, as simple as a cut. From then on the section after the cut starts to judder. I have shared this clip as a mpeg-4 file and it views OK. It is so difficult viewing the editing when it is jumping across the time line. IT would seem that gopro put everything in ones way to make it as difficult as possible to use there videos
Hope you can help as I would hate to have to go through the process of having to change all the formatting of all the files I have from gopro cameras.

Hi
As mentioned by Ken have you activated Smart Proxy
Settings – Smart Proxy Manager – Enable
When you add a clip to the timelines a proxy file will be automatically created.
Process can take a while, view settings Smart Proxy Queue Manager and File Manager for progress.
For existing clips on the timeline, right click and choose Create Smart Proxy File
Once created a small double looking icon will show on the thumbnail.
Smart proxy should improve project playback.

I am having this trouble with 4K video in VS9 too. NO proxy files are created. I have spent hours trying to sort it including 2 hours online with Auz from Corel (what a patient chap he is). Eventually we conceded defeat for the time being and the problem is being passed to developers for a future solution.

And if you were to create / use proxy files would that improve project playback?Philm5d wrote:I am having this trouble with 4K video in VS9 too. NO proxy files are created. Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
I am a little puzzled by the fact they are in the AVI wrapper format. Which model GoPro do you have? I have the GoPro Hero 3 Black edition, and the video which I transfer direct from the camera to my computer comes with the .mp4 extension, though using the AVCHD H.264 codec. The only time I get AVI from my GoPro footage is when I first process it through GoPro's own Studio software. So if you have done that, don't bother as VideoStudio can deal perfectly well with GoPro's original mp4 format.extreme10 wrote:I transfer the original video from gopro sdcard into a file on my computer. I should add that my own computer is only a Core i3 with 8 GB RAM, yet I don't have the problems you describe when using GoPro footage -- quite the reverse. I couldn't be more pleased...

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
Hi Ken
sorry for any delay in replying.
It seems that the gopro is now transferring the file across into X9 as MP4. It seems it was just that one transfer from the SD card that arrived as AVI?
No idea how the change took place but am chuffed that it has.
I have kept with video studio because it has a really great facility in Paint Creator. Allowing one to trace a moving journey onto a map. In many other editors it is very complicated. I have now changed over to X9 but the map , from a still photo, comes into paint shop in a very faint image. can I do anything to make this clearer. When rendered it comes out fine not like the image in paint creator

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
That worked superb on the actual paint creator.lata wrote:Hi

I have now lost the image on the editing screen. when I place it onto track 2 in editing. It shows the actual image on the track 2 but not in the editing screen when I scrub play it! It should play the map with the road being highlighted and the maker moving along it. I get the moving high light , which was created in paint and it moves along the track I marked in Paint creator. But no image. I must have altered something somewhere?
You help needed again I am afraid.

Hi
I am trying to add a photo , screen shot , of the computer screen for you to see the actual editing I am doing. It may clarify the problem. Can you let me know how I insert an photo?

Have a look at the attached photo. Click where the red arrow is pointing and then follow the relatively obvious next steps:

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
This is what is happening.
I place a map into paint creator. Then trace a line along one of the roads, That works fine ending up with the moving line .
In editing I then place a map clip onto track 2.
I move the edit line into the area of the map , this then has the resize/ position marks. I reduce the size slightly and play the video.
What comes onto the screen is the red line I have created on the map, NO image of a map.
Previously to this , when I first contacted you , the map and line were correct , only the image was washed out. Your advice proved to be correct and I moved the control.
Unfortunately I may have altered one of the controls somewhere in between receiving your advice.

Re: jumping when scubbing through editor.
Hi Rowland
The Painter Creator draws a path showing on the clip. Saved as a (a UVP file)
If you add to the overlay track then only the path shows the background is transparent
Things you can do
1 /
If you add that path/clip to the top track then it will display in full.
Render that to a new video clip, adding that clip to the overlay track will produce the Picture in Picture effect you want.
2 / add to overlay track 2, resize and position clip.
3 / add original map to overlay track 1
4 / right click clip on track 2 – Copy Attributes
5 / right click clip on track 1 – Paste Attributes
Others may know an easier way to display that background, but for the time being it alludes me?
