Load from stream error

Post by Longshanks »

Hi again

I'm the guy that had major league problems a few weeks ago with the poor quality of an mpeg 2 file following conversion from mpeg 4.

Have now used Format Factory to convert and output files seem much better. Unfortunately I now have a different problem. I tried to delete the old mpeg 2 files that were showing in the pane in the edit screen. (The mpegs themselves had been deleted so normally you get a message saying "file doesn't exist" when you select them and you can easily delete from the pane)

However, that process caused the prog to freeze so had to use task manager. When I then restarted VS12. the previous files appeared as ghost like, white envelopes with the message "load from stream error". When you hit ok they just load again and it is impossible to delete them and load the newly created video.

Seems like a vicious circle. I'm anxious about uninstalling and reinstalling as I upgraded from an earlier version so no disk etc. Also not sure have other product keys and wouldn't know where to start)

Any advice would be appreciated.

(VS12 using Win 7 on desktop)

Thanks

Hi

It may be the way you are managing your files, deleting them from the hard drive is gonna cause problems with the library content, although a little strange what you are describing

Go to Tools - Library Manager – Reset Library

Should set the library to As Installed.

To remove the clips from the library, simply right click and delete
Hold Shift + Delete will prompt to delete the files from the hard drive, use with caution.

Many thanks for response. Do you mean tools, library from within VS12? If so the aforementioned error does not allow you to activate any function other than perpetually hitting ok to to the load steam error dialogue box?

Sorry, perhaps I didn't make it sufficiently clear.
As soon as you launch VS12 the dialogue box with the aforementioned error message appears and it is impossible to do anything other than hit ok to eventually clear the "load from stream error" message. You have to do this until the requisite number of envelope looking files (no doubt to reflect those that are mortally wounded but not quite dead) appear. Once this is achieved there is a pause of a nanosecond and then the error message reappears........

Hi

In that case you may have to consider a re-installation but first try resetting the program by re-naming the 12.0 folder to “12.0 Old”

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio\12.0

The folder is hidden by windows so follow this info.

http://lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm

Once renamed a new folder will be created when starting VS 12

Further update

Procedure worked in getting rid of error so many thanks for that. Unfortunately I now find that when I insert new mpeg 2 files into VS12 there is no sound! The sound is there when you play them from their native location but not when you add to VS12.

Is there a reason for this and a quick fix?

Think my Cuba holiday project is cursed, doomed to failure

Many thanks

Hi

VS12 is quite old when it comes to software, your video files are I assume from a relatively newer camcorder so it may be a codec issue. I would have thought Mpeg2 would play ok.
Are the Mpeg2 the original files or have you used a video converter to create the Mpeg2?

Right click the clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they?
You could create an image (jpeg) of that panel and attach to your post.

The quick fix may be to update to the latest version CVSX9.

Otherwise update an original sample to a sharing site, DropBox, Google Drive, One Drive etc.

I/we can try your video an CVSX9 to see if it works ok?

Post updated
One thought, a bit of a workround, with the clip selected in the timeline change the volume from 100% to 99%

This did help with some video clips having similar problems?

Hi

Not home now so will post clip properties later.

Used Format Factory to convert mpeg 2 to mpeg 4 files (using settings advised in separate thread here)

What's odd is that the converted mpegs don't play with Win Media Player on PC. They do play using Media Classic Home Cinema. The video works when inserting to VS12.

I bought Camcorder in 2009 which was a year after upgrading to VS12.

Thanks

Meant to finish off by saying video works in VS12 but not audio!

When you used Format Factory to create your AVCHD/mp4 files, it would have used AAC as the audio format. I have the terrible suspicion that AAC is a "newer" format -- in other words, it was only developed *after* VS12 came out. So VS12 would not be able to recognise it. And that is the only audio format Format Factory uses for these mp4 conversions.

Unfortunately, I personally am not aware of another converter which uses an audio format which VS12 can deal with, such as (L)PCM or Dolby, though I am pretty sure there must be some out there. Hopefully someone else will be able to suggest one here.

Many thanks. I can see that the AAC factor could well be responsible for confounding VS12.

These are the properties as requested. The first is that relating to the individually converted mpeg 2 files.
1.PNG
The next are the equivalent properties for the final mpeg 2 following editing etc.
2.PNG
I've noticed the difference in audio type. I don't know if AAC is seen as Dolby by VS12 or is Dolby :D

I've also noticed that the sound is absent when play in preview. When you insert into timeline it is also silent if you have clip selected. If you change to project then you get the sound.

The second (final) mpeg shown is also silent when you do the create disk/add video file etc. However, if you put that same mpeg into the timeline in the edit screen you also get sound IF you select project rather than clip.

Grateful for any comments as always.

Thanks

Hi
You say “The first is that relating to the individually converted mpeg 2 files.”

Can you confirm that the first image showing the properties of Bay of Pigs 1.mpg is the original video as recorded by your camcorder / camera.

Or has the originals been converted to this format, you seem to indicate in your first post that originals are Mpeg4.
It may be best if we go back to the original files to sort this problem?

Are you able to upload the sample (original video file) to a sharing site so we can try on our pc’s, at least that should prove the problem is Video Studio or not?

OK
Comparing the two although not identical I do not see anything that should affect the audio.

Your computer specifications do not show to the right of your post.
Could you update your profile to include this data.

It may be that your pc is causing the lack of audio in clip playback.

In the early days of Digital Dolby a filter was provided to allow our pc’s to play that format (ac Filter) although we could not create DD till UVSX8, so I am going back a while. Although that does not explain the issue with LPCM audio.

I think the issue may be associated with the original Mpeg4 audio codec whose data may be carried over to the files converted to Mpeg2? And that sound s crazy……
If that is the case we need to go back to the original files.

Hi again

Thanks for sticking with me on this-appreciated!

The mpeg clips were the product of version from mp4. This was the default format used by my Camcorder when using internal storage rather than sd card (Don't know why that is?)

All the mp4 have slightly different video bit rates but audio seems to be same. I have included three samples. I don't think this is root of problem as have been converting from mpeg 4 in this way for many years with no issue.

I would also be grateful if someone could illuminate me on the FF conversion process. Whenever I convert a batch of mp4s the mpeg 2 files converted seem to have a mix of green and red arrows showing against them and haven't been able to figure out what this means.

Thanks again.
