PSP X4 not opening

Post by winb »

I realise that X4 is an old version but I hope someone can help me.
My main computer is a desktop and I work mainly with Photoshop, but I had PSP X4 installed on a Toshiba laptop 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium, it installed in the 32 bit part, listed in Program Files (x86). A couple of months ago, I had the laptop formatted then installed it again, it worked for a while, then just stopped working, no error message, just didn't open.
I've just updated the laptop to Windows 10, tested PSP X4 and of course it isn't working. So I've uninstalled it, did a cold start of the laptop and installed PSP X4 again... still no luck... it won't open from the desktop icon, or from the exe file in the Corel Folder in the Program Files (x86) > Corel > Corel Paint Shop Pro X4.
Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do? I'll appreciate any help I can get.
I don't expect that I would get any help from Corel since it is an outdated program, but how would I be able to contact them to try?
Many thanks

I'm sure you are correct that Corel will not support an older version. But, since you asked here's info on how to contact them.

1) Have you tried holding down the shift key while clicking the link to start PSP? If it works, PSP will ask if you want to return to factory settings, you click yes, and it starts. You would lose any changes you made, which is a good reason to save workspaces.

2) This sticky post on this forum contains clean-up tools to remove PSP versions completely before re-installing. It might help to use one of them.

Good luck.

Edit to add: Just in case, Paintshop Pro X4 service packs are available here.

I think I had a similar problem with PSP X4 and Windows 10. I needed to install the 3 service packs before it would work and I think the same was with another one of them as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try them tomorrow.
I think I'll do the full routine... uninstall, use the clean up tools, re-install and add the Service Packs.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi,
I've successfully got X4 installed and it opens. I did as suggested, reinstalling and adding the Service packs. Thanks for the help.
I haven't tested it yet, I have to add some graphics to the laptop. I also need to add plugins to the My PSP files folder... are there any special dlls needed for Windows 10?
Many thanks
