VS pro 6 will not open video files
When I try putting a file into the program to work on or have the program open a file
nothing happens. I cannot get .mpg, ts, any file extension at all to open.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the program and nothing seems to help.
It’s like it just freezes but things like using the samples inside the program
work just fine. Lost here and need some help, please? Running Windows 7
and have not used the program in a while, it does have SP 1 installed.

Not much more information.
What do you mean by "open"? Are you referring to the VSP project file or what?
PLease post some step-by-step explanation on what you are doing

Re: VS pro 6 will not open video files
When you said you haven't used Videostudio in quite a while - would that be back before February 2016
back in Feb Microsoft released a number of Windows updates which for many people stopped Videostudio from working at all - I am just wondering if your problem is just a different manifestation of the windows update problem
I assume you are using version X6 (16) and not version 6 which is over ten years - if X6 then this topic may help you :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59131

Re: VS pro 6 will not open video files
The "Installed version of application could not be determined" message is Corels very strange way of telling you that SP1 is already installed .
When you talk about "opening" files do you do that by just dragging the videos to the timeline - and is that from the library or from Windows explorer

Re: VS pro 6 will not open video files
sometimes I do drag to timeline and sometime just right click and select open with VS Pro 6. I keep all movie and video work in one file, AVI. This also is the files extension. Right now the program just bogs down and then freezes completely. Since it has never done and of this before I can't figure what is wrong. Already this morning I have removed and reloaded the program again, all to no avail.
Brian while I have your ear for the moment I need special help with my account on the forum. I keep trying to change my addy to the forum it is:
db1433@gmail.com old is db1433@ptd.net
It will not except the Gmail addy because it says it is already in use???????? anything you can do to help as always, is much appreciated.
Also just now heard back from Corel they gave me a file #. It is 3753979
Thanks again Brian,
Bill

Re: VS pro 6 will not open video files
the problem with your e-mail bill is that you used it before on a previous account with the username db1433 -and made 14 posts back in 2013
the software does not allow two accounts with the same e-mail address -- so I will swap them over so that this one uses the gmail one and the user account you no longer use has the ptd.net one
