Fed up with half measures - current pc not up to the job of editing 1080p footage ( let alone should i venture into world of 4k and beyond oneday!! )
So - simple, easy, quick question to those in the know..PC World staff pretty useless....im wanting to buy a new Desktop PC, for editing and a little gaming. Sadly budget cant stetch more than £800 or so ( not including a monitor )...any thoughts on what best to buy?
Acer, HP..
I7 processor ( a lot of I5's )
Geforce card 940 etc
I would like a PC to last at least 3 yrs, editing my HD footage without any real hassle.
Finally - i note a lot of PC's - all of them - no longer have built in access for...Firewire..i think it is...linking my older MiniDV tapes ( used from around 2008 - 2012 ). Any recommendation for something i can buy to plug into my 'new' pc so i can edit older tapes too.
THANKS for taking time to reply.
Looked at Argos, Currys, PC World, Amazon - for a decent PC spec..was told by one assistant new stock coming in shortly..so best to wait? ..always will be new stuff...the I7 processor do the job for me for time being with HD footage?
the best pc for the job of editing..

First you could look at the spec outlined by Corel for X9 and buy a PC with a better spec. I just passed the Corel spec to my Dealer and he made a PC that would do the job with some redundancy. For example my current PC has 8 USB ports, a set of card readers and a DVD read/writer and it is four years old.
I suggest you avoid laptops because they are too inflexible, I needed FireWire for my Canon HV20 and all that was required was a card plugged into the PC motherboard. I now run two monitors from my PC, one has the timelines and library etc. and the other gives me a full screen Preview window.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

If you want good performance at a reasonable price, you best bet is to build the machine yourself.

Re: the best pc for the job of editing..
Look at my specs. I had it custom built. Cost as much as a used car, but it was money well spent. It's fast and handles everything. i7 12 core or more and 32 gig ram or more and basically that's it. I did buy another laptop which is a i5 and it's slow as hell. PC desktop will always be better than a laptop. (my opinion.)
