Some time ago I lost the ability to reload x4 form DVD this will not load at all . I have the older copy of x2 and loaded that. That worked until a few days ago now that also will not load. I get a small black screen which flashes up but I can not read it. I managed to get a screen shot of it but don't know how to place it onto this site.
I have resisted purchasing x9 due to it not having a dvd for use in having problems in the future, which has happened many time. I have read on this forum that the updates from Microsoft have been causing problems. I managed to follow one ( a protexis thing) that didn't make any difference to the down loading for either dvd. They also do not work on my other laptop.
As no doubt you can make out I am not a wizard on a computer and any help would be welcome.
Does this removal or altering of files effect other video editing software?
I.ve enjoyed using Corel studio for many year and would hate to have to relearn another system.

The fact that X9 does not come on a DVD is not a problem - after you have downloaded the programme you copy the download to one of your own DVD's which you can then put safely away incase you need it
I took the free update to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Videostudio X9 works without problem on W10

Re: installing corel studio 2 & 4 from dvd
Thanks for the reference to copying onto a dvd. Doesn't help me though with my present problem. I did the switch to windows ten and lost a a good number of files. It also scattered hundreds into different files. Took ages to find them, and still have some missing. I switched back to windows seven.
Why doesn't Corel make a patch that cures the mistakes the Microsoft does to the files? It would make life a bit easier for us with less ability on computers.
I did the switch to 10 due to the problems the x9 had in windows 7. So really I am back where I started.
frustrated.

Re: installing corel studio 2 & 4 from dvd
I'm running both X8 and X9 on windows 7, 2 pc's both 64bit platforms, without problems.
And if you can install X9 from the saved download file (just execute it), then the install process is not an issue and maybe your DVD drive is. I find that I have problems with my PC burner roughly every 2 years (and replace it then). Nothing lasts these days, it seems.
OR
(something I found out the hard way) you have tried to burn a DVD at a rate which exceeds the disk in use. For example, I mostly use 16x 4.7gb DVD disk blanks. But burning at the (default) max rate is most likely to be faster than that and a verification check as part of that process (I use burner s/w that does that, but maybe other software doesn't) reports errors. So matching your burner rate (or less) to the spec of the disk before you start is really important, and all the burners I know including VS can do that.
Others on the forum - not just Brian - report using X9 OK with windows 10, but elsewhere win10 users have a reported a range of issues with that OS. And a search thru the MS forums for win10 issues will get you a lot of them. Not every PC (software, hardware or occasionally both) can run that OS without issues: if your machine is not so young (say 3-4 years or more) there are almost certainly problems there. And on the subject of reversion (going back from win10 to win7) I had an issue with update in win7 not long ago and a side effect of resolving that was an assertion by the MS consultant that the win10 reversion process was seriously flawed: the number of queries to the update part of that forum site was overwhelmingly about reversion problems.
So, suggestions:
1. check the X9 installation from the download file. if that works, then check that the burn rate you have selected on the burner software you use matches or is less than the DVD blanks you are using to make copies.
2. search the MS answers forum for issues associated with win 10 and your brand of PC.
3. do a similar search for reversion issues with win 10.
and check that none of them are pertinent to your PC.
When you are sure that reversion to win 7 has not introduced issues, and you can successfully burn a DVD using other software, then maybe follow up on things that are specific to you when using VS X9.
