PSPPX3 Ultimate - How to make straight diagonal lines?

Post by SyncroScales »

Hi.

I wanted to make some straight diagonal lines across a canvas for backgrounds or to use PSPPX3 Ultimate to make art and paint with it. How can I do that? Can I adjust the thickness of the lines?

When I use Microsoft Paint I can select the button that says line. I click and hold the mouse button. I drag the button across the canvas and let go. A straight line is created. I also can change the colours, etc.

I would like to be able to then use the fill tool or other tools to fill in each area in between the lines.

Is this possible?

Thank you.

I found it. The Pen Tool.

Any other methods?

I don't have X3 but assume this works in that version as well - click on the canvas for a starting point then hold the shift key as you click on the next point. This works with most (all?) of the brushes such as paintbrush, eraser, push brush, etc. You can have interconnecting straight lines using this feature.

just a suggestion but if you want the lines to be parallel you might want to select 'snap to grid..' in the view menu

I am trying to make something such as flags or a canvas to later ad other images or digital art on-top of. So I need to be able to section off each piece without one side being filled, then the other side being filled on top of the original sections. There can be 3 - 5+ separate sections I am trying to make.

Is using layers a better idea?

When I use the pen tool or the other tools, I can fill in one part of the shapes. then maybe a second half. But when I fill in another part, the colours overlap and fills in over top of the first or second colour.

MarkZ: Holding the Shift key creates random results for the original line to start.

Hi Jean-Luc. Thank you for the instructions. I would click the mouse button and shift, hold both and drag right away. Now it works.

Thank you MarkZ and flagpole.

Perhaps not visible on my video : what I do is ...
- click with the Pen tool on the start point (shift key not down)
- shift key down (and maintain down during all the process)
- release the mouse (shift maintained)
- move to the next point and click with mouse : PSP draws the straight line between the two points
- etc

Hi Jean-Luc.

I understand the video and what you write. I should clarify, what you quote me saying after I watched the video is what I did before I watched the video. That is why I had trouble. Now I am not having trouble.

I also looked at the pen tool again. I noticed the options at top in the Mode section and how I can draw straight lines, connect them, etc. So I will figure out how to use these options, and I hope the fill tools are keeping the segments separate instead of over-lapping some of the filled-in segments. I still think I have to set this up with layers some how, just to make it a little easier.

Thanks.
