this may have been asked, maybe it's in the instruction manual, or maybe it's just obvious and i'm just stupid... but from what i remember (haven't used CG in a while) it's easier to make titles with CG than VE, but you can't create a simple title with an alpha channel in CG, and i have to key out the background in VE!
there must be away around just putting color keys to make a title...
anyone?
no alpha channels in CG infinity?

Save as UIS image sequence
If you use Create Video File and save it as a UIS image sequence, there's a box in the Options panel for saving the Alpha channel. I don't use VE, but in MSP, you then import the UIS file as a video file and the alpha channel comes with it.

No guarantee, as it's years since I used CGI, but I think saving in the TGA format also preserves it.

I'm told (i.e. I've never done it myself) that a 32bit AVI contains an alpha channel for exactly this purpose. I don't know if any codecs other than "uncompressed" support 32bit, though. At about two gigs a minute, that's a lot of drive space for something as simple as titles (I'm assuming your titles are quite long, else why wouldn't you just use the VE titler).

Thanks for the replies, I'll go try them out...
Actually I was meaning for using a very simple title, I don't need it because my titles are too long... it's just that you can't easily position your text in Video Editor, where you can drag it around fine in CG. In video editor I have to press the space bar a bunch or hit enter to move it down, just to simply move the text to where I want it!

ejskater16,
Save CG project in its native format (.ucg) this keeps the alpha channel.
Gorf,
Uncompressed 32 bit avi does contain alpha channel. I use it all the time with my COOL3D PS projects.
Monroe,
When he stated VE, he probably meant the Video Editor module in MSP and you are correct UIS has the alpha channel option.
Devil,
TGA and TGA image sequences have the option for making background transparent. Thus keeping the alpha channel as well. This is my preferred method when using Wondertouch Particle Illusion.

Has anyone even considered loading the titles background video or image into CGI (View/Background) and performing the overlay there?
It displays right behind your title as you edit, giving you an excellent preview of how your color choices are working, positioning relative to background elements etc. etc.;
When you're finished export the result as a video file and load it directly into MSPro.
Poof!
