Welcome Screen "Learn" links/"Get More" do nothing

Post by picassoz »

I've recently installed the 64-bit version of PaintShop Pro X8 on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate system. The program for the most part runs okay.
However when I click on any of the Welcome Screen's Learn links nothing happens, except it seems to slow the program for a while. When I click on the Get More tab there's never anything to see.
This happens every time I start the program, including after computer reboots. I've not seen this issue discussed and addressed elsewhere, but if it is please point me there.
BTW Link panels in the right hand corners of each of these screens (i.e. Learn & Get More) are blank when I think they should be showing something. See the pic below:

Yes. I've had no trouble registering the software, and clicking on other links within the program e.g. Help Topics and User Guide, open up and display in my default browser (Slimjet) okay.

I don't even get that Welcome screen. I have turned off in General Program Preferences any splash screens and other help screens, preferring to work direct from the Corel site for any other items rather than through PSP.

The Get More probably refers to the extra bits you can get from the corel site on this page:

http://www.paintshoppro.com/en/support/ ... pspx8.html

With regard to those Learn items again you can get them from the Corel site here:
http://learn.corel.com/photo-tutorials/ ... 4359658687
and here:

As well as many tutorials on Youtube.

What is the version number you see when you go to Help>About? I ask because of the missing stuff in the right hand panel of the screen, which should have content. It may be a problem caused by not having the latest patches installed.

Thanks for the responses.

I purchased the software 3 days ago Joe - downloadable version (not the DVD). The version number installed is Corel PaintShop Pro18.2.0.61 x64, Build Date - Saturday, 16 April 2016 @ 02:03:06. Build Mode - Release (12000004)

When I check for updates I get the message. "There are not updates available at this time."

In the System Information readout (off the "About" screen) nothing seems amiss, though there's a "No" for MMX support. However, at the risk of being boring I'll include it here (minus the serial number!) in case it sheds any light:

BTW thanks hartpaul. I'd worked out those alternatives to access that information, but would like to resolve this problem. It also means I can't respond to any offers made which specifically refer to using the "Get More" window.

If you registered the program, then the email acknowledging registration should have directed you to go to the Corel.com website to download the PSPx8_Creative Content.exe file and KPT filters available to registered users.

Thanks Ken. There were several downloads available via my order email from Corel. I downloaded only the main program as the others were just extra treats. The link to the other content was in my (separate) registration email as you advised. I'll download, install them and see what happens...
The Creative Content file (pspx8-corel_creativecontent.exe) installed okay; but not the KPT Collection. Not surprising as it's 32 bit and I've only installed the 64 bit PhotoShop program. However the Creative Content installation has made no difference to my Welcome Screen issue.

Hi
First post here so please be gentle!
I have just got PSP X8 on 2.12.16 as part of the Roxio NXT 5 Pro package. I get the exact same issue as the OP so has this been resolved or explained? Windows 7 SP1 32 bit.

Cheers

One thing you might want to try might sound a bit strange, though it worked for me and other users with a similar problem with an empty registration page after installation of Video Studio rather than PSP. It will sound strange because it relates to Internet Explorer, when many (most?) of us never use that browser. However, it appears that Corel still links their server connections to an assumption that Internet Explorer is the default browser of all users!

So what you should try is to go to Control Panel > Internet Options and on the dialogue box which appears, click on the Advanced tab. Down towards the bottom there is a button to Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Click that and close the dialogue box. Then reopen PSP -- perhaps after rebooting the computer as well -- and see if you still have the same problem...
