Create Blu Ray disc without re-encoding?

Post by helloguys »

I have a HD camcorder (Canon HF R52) which records video in AVCHD format. From my understanding, AVCHD (with .mts extension) and Blu Ray streams (with .m2ts extension) are using the same codec (H.264?).

Does VS X9 has the feature of authoring Blu-Ray disc without re-encoding the video files? Assuming it would speed up the video rendering significantly?

I used MediaInfo to compare the original .mts file with the rendered .m2ts file, the only difference is the bit rate. The follow result was after I manually customize the MPEG settings on "Project Settings > Change MPEG Settings... > Compression > Video data rate: change default 18000 kbps to 12000 kbps (because my camcorder records video file at max. of 12000 kbps).

What I don't understand is that the rendered .m2ts file bit rate is 8,093 kb/s, which is higher than the original files 5,454 kb/s.

Original .mts file:
Video
Bit rate: 5,454 kb/s
Maximum bit rate: 12.0 Mb/s

Rendered .m2ts file:
Video
Bit rate: 8,093 kb/s
Maximum bit rate: 12.Mb/s

Thanks!

To Burn a Bluray disc you must have a Motion Transport Stream type video file

And if you do have a compliant Bluray file then yes it should burn to disc without further rendering. You would first have to render your project to a compliant video file.

With Video Studio running
Start a new project – File New Project
Place one of the original videos on the top track.
You should get a message to match the video file.
Choose Details, then Copy and Paste the text from the right hand panel to this post.

Choosing Yes / Ok will set the project properties to match the video properties.

Otherwise Right Click the clip and choose properties what are they?
Creating an image of that window to attach to your post would also help.

Share – has the option to render Same as Project Properties or Same as First Clip, those options would use the original properties at 12000kbps, retaining the original quality
You can use Make Movie Profile Manager to create your own template using the Add function.

Some confusion with your reference to 8.,093 Kbps, maybe only refer to Max rates.

Ok

Quick test
Start a new project
Share – Disc – Bluray opens the burner module
Add Media – add Video file, choose one of your original video files.

Navigate to the last page
Choose to Create Bluray Folder – deselect Create Disc (don’t wish to waste a disc)
Press Burn and the process should start with Convert Menu.
If it starts with Convert Title then the original video file is being re-coded, not what you want.

My program is tied up at the moment so I cannot check this with 12000kbps video
