Systems:
* Set-top PIONEER DVR520H (DVD Recorder) - PAL
* PC -> Win 2000, LG GSA4082B DVD drive
w/demo version of Ulead Movie Factory 3 (UMF3)
Intent: To encode video to DVD-format (VOBs etc.) on the set-top PIONEER and then design menus for the final DVD in UMF3. (The fixed PIONEER menu designs are rather basic.)
However, when recording DVD-VR format to a DVD-RW on the PIONEER and trying to finalize it in UMF3 with adjusted menus the program freezes.
I've choosen the Add/Edit ("Edit Disk") from the main UMF3-menu and do get the first frames of the "titles" from my test DVD-RW as icons below the "monitor window". I also managed to play some of the first clip/Title. But after a short while the program "hangs". When forcing a quit (through Win2000) the UMF3 main menu reappears.
Another bizarre effect is that when inserting the DVD-RW (VR-format) from the PIONEER in the computer I get a system message -> "Your version of DLA can read files on this disk, but you will not be able to edit or add to them" - Despite this I managed to add a couple of files through: "Append Data" in the Edit option after choosing "Edit Disk" - And then "Burn" - However, the remainder of the disk remains in the DVD-VR -format.
I'd say Ulead Movie Factory 3 looks promising regarding the interfaces and use, but will it perform to my desires... ?

According to the message you mentioned, you should have Sonic DLA Packet Writing Driver installed in your system. I think it's the reason why DVDMF got freezed. Please use the Add/Remove Programs item in the Control Panel of Windows to remove Sonic DLA in your system.
Also DVDMF has some patches for the purchased version to improve the VR compatibility, which you can download the patches from http://www.ulead.com/tech/dmf/dmf.htm .
Hope this helps.
