ASP3 Hotfix 1: Pink Hue no more; Linux install fixes

Post by Alex Brazeau »

Hi all, dropping in to let you know the Corel Photo team released the first mini-update to AfterShot Pro 3 earlier today, available now on the AfterShot Pro updates page. We also have a post on the blog with a few more details.

With the first major ASP3 update still in the works, we wanted to get these particular fixes out to the community ahead of our upcoming wider update. You’ll find three enhancements to AfterShot Pro 3 as part of Hotfix 1, including the following:
• the pink or magenta hue issue (observed when adjusting Highlights or Exposure)
• Fedora Linux coexistence issue between version 2 and 3 (Note: Fedora users must uninstall AfterShot Pro 3.0 before installing Hotfix 1)
• missing prerequisite libraries for Linux Ubuntu ver. 16.04

We've also added a brand new preset pack, called Street Cred II, now available in-app or on the Corel Discovery Center.

If you have reported issues or made a request with our team, we want you to know that we are aware of your feedback and your suggestions are being evaluated for inclusion in a future update. A quick reminder that we’ll be keeping an eye on this thread and others here on the forum.

I invite and encourage everyone to share their thoughts directly with our team by contacting support, messaging us on Facebook or with the in-app Feedback button. We take every single suggestion into consideration.

Thanks again everyone.

Cheers,
Alex

ASP3 3.0.0.148 built Jun 24, 2016
The magenta hue in Canon 80D sRAW files is still there.
I was hoping that the No Image Available issue would be resolved but when I change the scale of a RAW image from its default 25% size, I suddenly get a No Image Available splashed across my screen. Then no matter the scale, it doesn't come back. The only way to get the image back is to change to another image and then return to the first one.
The histogram curves in the Standard and Color correction boxes are also still missing in the RAW images
The above all in Canon 80D RAW images. The in camera made JPG files don't have these issues which is nice but renders the program rather useless

Oddly, I occasionally get the "Image not available" message, while ASP redraws the offscreen parts of an image. It has long been a frustration of mine that none of my computers has a graphics card powerful enough to render the whole image instantly; and this has led me in the past to denoise more than was really necessary. All the same, I am not convinced this is necessarily a Canon specific issue.

Hey, Martin. Yes, you're right. The hue issue does still exist on that sRAW file format and our dev team has this logged as a separate bug as they are not one and the same. The No Image Available issue is being looked at and is scheduled to be addressed as part of our next update.

Also, can you tell me a bit about the histogram curves in the Standard and Color correction missing in the RAW images? Not sure I'm familiar with that one so if you can fill me in I'll pass any info along to our team. Thanks.

When I open ASP3, I can zoom in on a RAW CR2 image and I see the both the Histogram and Color curves. After going back and forth to various folders and looking at images, it will suddenly stop displaying the Histogram and Color curves. Then when I attempt to change the zoom, I get the "No Image to Display"message. I can seemingly provoke it by looking at a Canon 80D mRAW CR2 file. On opening in the main display window, it appears normal but there are no Histogram and Color curves. Then when I attempt to change the zoom, I get the "No Image to Display"message. When I then return to the normal RAW CR2 files, they too are now affected. But not consistently. Sometimes it still works. The sRAW don't seem to be affected by this behavior but they all have a magenta color cast.

When all is working
Image

mRAW without any curve data
Image

after zooming to 50%, still not curve data and No image
Image

even at 25%, no histogram either

How long does the "No Image" problem last? Is it permanent? In the case I reported, it seems to appear (as with your situation) after I have forced a repaint of the whole image. And as my laptop has fairly pathetic on-board graphics (ASP wouldn't let me try to use hardware acceleration), it can be a matter of minutes before the part of the picture I was looking at finishes repainting. In the meantime, I get the "no image" screen. But the picture always comes back in the end.

It is permanent. It happens only when I process Canon CR2 files and never with JPGs. It also kills ability to send images to batch queue (the result from queue is 100% errors). The only way to work around is to close and restart AfterShot which apparently results in some internal error while closing because after restart it starts with some settings cleared (previous directory not selected, no filters). It happens for me for each 30-50 images so its quite annoying. To clarify my hw setup I have OpenCL libs installed in my system although disabled OpenCL in AfterShot due to quite capable main processor and very low end NVidia graphics card.

The pink has gone but so is the ability to open a folder! I can only open a single file in Hotfix1,
the minute I try to navigate into a folder containing images APS3 crashes. Back to APS 2 for now.

Linux Mint 17 and using Panasonic and Olympus Raw images...

I've logged this as a support issue too BTW.
