I recently installed PSP X8, spent a great deal of time migrating scripts from X6 and everything has been going well (love how quickly it now launches) but just earlier tonight I discovered that it sometimes launches OK and sometimes doesn't on first click. Clicking the icon a second, sometimes a third time before program window appears. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. Anyone has any idea what might be causing this strange behaviour? I have other photo editing programs such as DxO, Photoshop CC, Bridge, all of which launch normally and consistently with each mouse click.

Re: PSP X8 Starting Anomaly
The next time it doesn't start on the first click, open Task Manager and see if it is running in Background Processes. I have found with successive versions of PSP that when I close it down, sometimes it remains running as a Background Process, thus making it impossible to open on the desktop again until you close down the running process in Task Manager. I have no idea why this happens, however -- though it only seems to happen to PSP and sometimes also Corel Video Studio.

Re: PSP X8 Starting Anomaly
Thanks Ken for that input.
At first I thought it happened because I had Protexis disabled. Glad to know it's a known thing. I noticed the PSP X8 process takes a consistent 10 seconds to unload from Task Manager after closing the application. Any attempt to run the application again within the 10-sec period, a second PSP instance appears for a couple of seconds and then promptly disappears. Interesting why it does this.

And sometimes it simply stays there long after 10 seconds, requiring a manual shut down as I said above...attempt to run the application again within the 10-sec period, a second PSP instance appears for a couple of seconds and then promptly disappears.

Re: PSP X8 Starting Anomaly
I'm not sure if I should start my own thread or not, because I am having the exact same issue: PSPx8 does not always start...
Only rarely does it show up in the Task Manager and need to be Terminated, in my case.
I downloaded SP2 (the latest available at this time) but it stated that x8 did not need it, when I ran it.
I tried running it as Administrator and Reinstalling it (reinstalling three times now).
I then tried the automated Compatibility Troubleshooter, but it merely tried the things I did manually just before that.
I have a Dual-Boot system and notice that this does not occur in Windows 10, only in Windows 8.1...
Thanks for any ideas and I apologize if I should start my own Thread, I would be happy to do so. Thanks!

Re: PSP X8 Starting Anomaly
As to starting a new thread, I would not think you should. As your issue appears to be the same one as the OP's, you have provided a bit more info that might help in troubleshooting it - i.e., that you only have the issue with one operating system version but not another. As long as the issue is the same (or close), then MHO is that all posts related to that issue should stay in one thread to help in determining which variables (OS, version patch, laptop/tower, etc.) might be relevant in narrowing down when the issue occurs and when it does not.
