VS X9 Time Line Problem
Hello
I recently posted this using another log in as I had forgotten my credentials. Anyway...
I am in the program now. VS X9. This was not an issue in VS X6.
Here is what my issue is:
1. When inserting a video clip in the time line (either between two other clips--photos or videos--or at the end of the time line) and trimming the inserted clip at either end, in the time line, the program always extends the previous clip--say a photo--by the number of seconds trimmed off the inserted clip.
Say I have a photo already in the time line with a duration of 3 seconds. I insert a video clip with a duration of 10 seconds. I want to trim off 5 seconds of the inserted video clip. I slide to trim the video clip to where I want it to start. After trimming the video clip, the program extends the previous clip--say a photo--by 5 seconds--the amount of time trimmed off the video clip. Now my photo is 8 seconds in length. If I go and shorten the photo back to 3 seconds, the program automatically re-extends the video clip to it's original unedited length.
This happens with and without ripple editing.
It's driving me nutty! I am hoping this is just a setting I am missing. And as stated, I never had this problem in VS X6.
Please help!
Thank you

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
maybe you discovered a hidden Easter egg, (as VS do not have two sided trim)
you claim that if you have 3sec+10sec clips, trimming 5 of the 10, adds 5 to the 3 automatically?
What you use for trimming?

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
Yes
If I trim anything...photo or video. While in the time line. The program adds or subtracts time of previous clips or clips that follow the clip being trimmed...depending which end I am trimming. As if the program sees that the original inserted clip sets a total time of the time line and it wants to keep that time constant. I can only add clips to the end of the time line without issue. But there are many times I want to go back and trim from within the program after I have reviewed my layout.
Making me crazy.

If you can screen capture and upload that, we love to see that in action.mark9422 wrote:Yes

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
OK But I want to turn it off as it disrupts my editing process and my 2 hr + movie will take much longer to complete.

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
Ok
See attached Screen Caps.
Notice Img 6112 and 6113 are 1.25 seconds in screen shot 1.
Let's say I want to extend Img 6112 to 3 seconds.
Img 6113 is now only .20 Seconds! I want to keep 6113 at 3 seconds but the program cuts it by the amount of time I extend 6112. See Screen Shot 2
VS 6 never did this!
How do I disable this?

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
This seemed to happen after an update. I'm on service pack 3 now. I can't seem to remember when it started but this was not the case when I began using the program.

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
Hi
I have just tried changing image durations without problems.
I notice your image shows Ripple Editing applied, although I do not think that would interfere.
I assume you are dragging the clip to change the duration, I did not have a problem?
Can you try setting the digital clock on the Photo Tab to change image duration

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
Alt and CTRL? You mean hold one of those while editing? Haven't tried that. But will. Shouldn't have
To do that as I never did that with VS 6.
I wonder if the program is trying to keep the length a constant after the clip has been dropped in. Extending or shortening
Anything would change the overall length of the time line. Does it maybe have to do with
Auto music? Because if the time line is extended, a previously selected music bed or track would
Not fit with the addition of another element. I'm literally lost.
Wonder if I should just uninstall and reinstall the program. But all my thumb nails would be lost. I'm right in the middle of
A big annual project.
Thank you in advance.

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
One more thing. I did try using the digital clock to change the duration of a clip. Same result.

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
And on another note, I don't have to insert a video clip or photo. If I edit an existing clip in the timeline (photo or video)
... It ...the program...will always adjust the clip adjacent to the clip that I'm changing.

Re: VS X9 Time Line Problem
If any one knew Mark they would have told you by now - nobody else has ever had a problem like yours - no one knows what to tell you to cure it
I am not sure exactly how you are working - you say you slide to the point and then trim - first of all exactly what are you sliding - and when you trim how are you doing that - if with the scissor tool do you then not have to delete the trimmed piece - you make no mention of deleting anything
normally when every one is stumped the usual advice would be to uninstall and then re-install to see if that cures the problem
"Settings >> Library Manager >> Export library" will save the thumbnails in your library
"Settings >> Library Manager >> Import library" should get them back after re-install
that is about all there is at the moment
