X8 Ultimate .swf 'file format mismatch'?

Post by Director »

HI all, hope someone can help out. I'm helping out someone else who is having an issue with VS X8 Ultimate. If we go to the 'graphic' section (the little flower symbol) and then the 'flash animation' section it brings up a bunch of .swf animation files. If we click on one of them all we get is an error message

"Original file [E:\P4\!MainTree\P4\UVS\Source\HerCules\..\..\..\Exe2012\Samples\Video\FL-F25.swf] doesn't exist."

That path doesn't make sense as the program was installed from downloaded files on C: . I asked if he had installed anything from his CDRW drive but he says he didn't. Anyway, if I click the 'relink' button and navigate to c:\Program File\Corel\Corel videostudio 8\Samples\video I can see the files there in the folder but I try to relink them I get the 'file format mismatch' error. VS Ultimate was reinstalled from scratch last week as per the instructions at the top of this forum. Running on Windows 7 with 16 Gb ram. Would appreciate any clues to get this sorted out. :)

edit: Before we get the above error we get this one "BurnstarR DLL has stopped working, with the following details.

APPCRASH
Application Name: QtBridge32.exe
Application Version: 18.6.0.6
Application Timestamp: 5652e3bd
Fault Module Name: QtBridge32.exe

I reinstalled Quicktime to no effect, thanks.

Thanks

Hi

Sorry you are having problems.

There have been some similar issues with the library showing clips in the wrong location.
Unfortunately we do not have a definite solution, just some things you can try.

Certainly a library issue and maybe with the Contents install file, some maybe 6 clips from the main program may work ok, whilst the Contents pack could be the culprit.

Is your program the download version or Disc version?
For disc version copy the content to your pc hard drive
Have you installed the latest patch from Corel, “service pack 3”
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppor ... sion-tab=1

Things to try
1 / First try re-installing VideoStudioX8_2Contents.exe, (from hard drive)
2 / Using the Add folder try importing the clips again, delete the rouge clips, I see 40 clips.
That may work? But there may be other library clips affected.
3 / You can try resetting the library from Settings Library Manager – Reset Library
That will remove your personal folders, so maybe do a Export Library.
Then again as it is a library issue you are saving a faulty library.
4 / Reset program by renaming 18.0 folder
http://lata.me.uk/corel/reset/reset.htm

5 / Re-install the program, when uninstalling choose remove personal data.

Good luck

Hi Trevor,

With VSX8 (but not VSX9) I am having the same issue with Flash animation swf files, I do not get the "doesn't exist" message but "The contents of these files is unreadable"
As in an earlier post about BurnStarr.dll error when opening FastFlick in VSX8, this is a BurnStarr.dll error where QtBridge32.exe is again the faulting module
and this time, it's giving the location of the swf files as C;\ProgramFiles(x86)CorelVideoStudioProX7\Samples\Video, which as I have stated before, VSX7 32 bit has never been installed on this computer, only the 64 bit version.
These swf files were created between 2004-2008, wonder if that's significant
Tried copying the contents of Samples Video folder from VSX9 to VSX8 but to no avail.

Getting a bit late here, so will try a reinstall of VSX8 tomorrow, to see if that corrects the problem, hope there will be no subsequent issues with VSX9 after installing VSX8 again

Hi

The first time I recall having this problem was back with CVSX5 I think?, then the program targeted X2 (VS12), for me using the laptop X2 (VS12) had never been installed, So really a library messed up.

I had thought you could delete the problem files and import again from Samples.
Maybe wrong as its been a while. Although that does not fix the problem, just a workround?

Thanks for that tried steps 1 and 3 to no effect. Step 2 I didn't understand. :)

Tried to install the SP3 file but it gives an error: "The installed version of the application could not be determined" Might just do a total uninstall (again) and see what happens.

Hi Trevor,
What a fun morning so far, uninstalled VSX8 then reinstalled, bad move, I don't think VSX8 can be successfully installed whilst VSX9 is installed, is that correct

Just installing the main program only gives the following errors when trying to launch

Main VSX8
Problem Event - BEX64
App Name - vstudio.exe
Fault module - StackHash_ bc6e

FastFlick
Problem Event - BEX64
App Name - MWizard.exe
Fault Module - ole32.dll

ScreenCap
Problem Event - APPCRASH
App Name VssCap.exe
Fault Module - VssCap.exe

So may try installing VSX8 next time VSX9 is uninstalled, that wont be long considering the issues with VSX9

OK no luck with a complete reinstall, removed personal folders, manually deleted any other related folders, renamed the '18' folder. So I put X7 back on for him and that works OK, X8 doesn't though I did manage to get SP3 to install this time. Didn't help. :)

Hi Guys

I have just re-installed X8 with no problems, except for installing VSX8_HotFix_2.exe to get the program running, then installed the Contents pack which looked ok followed by the Bonus pack, again no problems.

I don’t think it’s a conflict with X8 and X9 rather than any installation may be a problem.
I would think uninstalling X8 and X9 then installing X8 will have the same problems?

Robert I assume your profile is correct and you are still running Windows 7?

Director
If you install the main program only it should run on Windows 10, otherwise install Hotfix 2, do you have problems.
Then install the Contents pack, run the program, now do you have problems.
Now install the Bonus pack for the ultimate version.
Finally install SP3.
The original Corel VideoStudio X8 Service Pack 3 did have SWF issues, have you downloaded the latest version from :-
http://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppor ... sion-tab=1

I do not know what else to suggest here but I will bring this post to the attention of Corel Support.

Thanks Trevor, yes I did DL SP3 from that link. I'll have another crack at it tomorrow, testing it along the way as you describe and let you know what happens.

Issue for me is now resolved, reinstalled VSX8 and followed Trevors advice and also installed HotFix_2, I did not install the hotfix previously as the problem Windows Updates were not installed, anyway Flash Animation is now working correctly and no longer get the BurnStarR.exe error when launching FastFlick.
So now will install all the other components
Somehow the original VSX8 installation had become corrupted

Update,
All components now reinstalled, only problem is Boris Graffiti is not showing in the Library, tried renaming the 18.0 folder to Old and let the library rebuild but Boris still not showing. Will try to sort that out tomorrow, it's bedtime

Hi
Thats good news…

Reset Program

There are two 18.0 folders
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\18.0
And
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\18.0

Make sure you choose the correct one for your installation, or rename both, however as it’s a new install maybe simply delete the folders.
The only reason to re-name is to have them available as a backup should you wish to revert.

Also try Settings – Library Manager – reset library.

Coincidentally, I just had this problem too, though in a different context. All the proDAD filters were there in FX but not Boris. I had already done the 18.0 folder thing but that did not help. So I reinstalled the Bonus Features as a whole, and this time Boris appeared without even having to repeat the deletion of the 18.0 folder.

Hi Ken,

Tried reinstalling Boris again from the Bonus Features, did not work, what I had to do was uninstall BG6.1 and BG6.6 first
Installed correctly at 2nd attempt and shows in Library as 6.1, Whilst I do have BG 6.6 I am unable to install because the only 6.6 available is for VSX7, from memory we just copied 6.6 from VSX7 into VSX8 and as I no longer have VSX7 installed, I'm stuck with 6.1, but that's not a big deal as VSX8 is fully operational again
